Man Utd tipped to join race for Premier League star who's an "absolute gem"

Manchester United could now join the race to sign a Premier League player who has been described as an “absolute gem” of a footballer.

Amorim backed by former Man Utd player

It’s fair to say that Ruben Amorim is feeling the heat as Red Devils manager, not least after the humiliating EFL Cup penalty shootout defeat to Grimsby Town last month.

Despite this, former United defender Phil Jones has shown his support for the Portuguese, suggesting he still believes he is the right man for the job.

“I’ll tell you where I’m at with Amorim… I like him. I like the transparency he has between the players and the fans – and I think that’s certainly been something we’ve missed over the last few years. I think certain previous managers have missed a trick, because if you’re transparent with this fanbase, they will back you all the way; they will sing your name and cheer for you.

Manchester United manager RubenAmorimbefore the match

“Look, he came in straight away and said things were going to get worse before they got better, and that’s been the case. I like his authenticity. He is who he is, and he’ll face criticism for it. But he’s not going to change for anyone. He owns it. He inherited a squad which wasn’t his, halfway through a season, who were used to playing a different way. Let’s just give him time.”

United are by no means the finished article, and they still need to strengthen certain areas of the squad after a mixed summer transfer window.

Man Utd could join race for Premier League hero

Speaking to The Boot Room, journalist Graeme Bailey claimed that Manchester United could join the race to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, should they secure Champions League football this season.

“Liverpool will be back for him, of course. But they know they’ll be one of many clubs making an offer. Now, with Guehi, it resets everything. Everyone starts at a blank slate. Guehi’s people are aware of the clubs who have already told them they’ll be making an offer next summer – clubs like Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid.

“In England, let’s see where Tottenham finish – they love him as a player. Would Chelsea come into the equation on a free transfer? Of course, they would. Man United? If they finish in the top four, of course they do.”

Crystal Palace's MarcGuehicelebrates scoring their second goal

Guehi missed out on joining Liverpool on deadline day, despite even passing a medical, so for United to suddenly swoop in and sign him next summer would be significant, pipping their rivals to his signature in the process.

The 25-year-old is a fantastic player who has grown into a key starter for England in the coming years, with coach Michael Beale hailing him during his time working with him at Chelsea as a youngster.

“He shows a huge amount of confidence to play on the left side and his technical upbringing from Chelsea means he can use his left foot, albeit he is dominant on his right foot. When you see the teams line up, he’s not the biggest centre-back but he has a huge leap. Quietly people are realising we have an absolute gem in him.”

Guehi is out of contract at Palace in 2026, and his anger at not joining Liverpool means he is highly unlikely to sign an extension, so United should be all in on signing him on a free transfer.

That said, Champions League football will surely be needed for the Red Devils to get their man, and in truth, their biggest rivals still feel like the favourites to sign him.

Kuhnemann cleared of suspect bowling action by ICC

Left-arm spinner Matt Kuhnemann has been cleared to bowl in international cricket by the ICC. He had been reported for a suspect action following the two-Test series in Sri Lanka where he had picked up 16 wickets in the series as Australia won 2-0.Kuhmemann, who had never previously been reported in a professional career dating back to 2017, was tested in Brisbane and learnt of the outcome on Wednesday.”He…underwent an independent bowling assessment at the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane on 15 February, where it was revealed that the amount of elbow extension for all his deliveries was within the 15-degree level of tolerance permitted under the ICC Illegal Bowling Regulations,” an ICC statement said.Related

Kuhnemann could have continued playing domestic cricket while his action was assessed although the thumb he dislocated during the BBL has kept him out of action since. It is not known yet if he will be fit in time for Tasmania’s next Sheffield Shield game against Queensland in Hobart from March 6. He is a strong chance of being selected for the Test tour of West Indies in June and July.During the testing process, Kuhnemann went through a session that lasted more than one hour, where he was asked to bowl at a similar speed and with similar revolutions to what he did in the second Test in Galle. ICC experts were at hand to observe the proceedings as Kuhnemann bowled, wearing markers on his body and surrounded by several high-speed cameras and a 3D motion analysis system.”We are pleased for Matt that this matter is now resolved,” Ben Oliver, CA executive general manager national teams said in a statement. “It has been a challenging period for Matt, however he has carried himself exceptionally well.”He has had the full support of Australian cricket and he can now move forward to the next phase of his international career with great confidence.”Not long after he had been reported, his Australia team-mates rallied behind him, with Steven Smith, Australia’s captain in Pat Cummins’ absence, saying, “It’s come as a bit of a surprise to me. He has been playing for eight years in professional cricket and nothing has been said in that amount of time.”I am thinking of him, at present, he has to go through the process. We’re confident he will pass. He will go through that process back home. We wish him all the best.”Kuhnemann has taken 25 wickets in five Tests at 22.20.

Man Utd now set to submit Sesko bid £3.5m higher than Newcastle's offer

Manchester United are keen to restore their former glories and could now submit an offer for one of their key targets who is attracting plenty of attention, according to reports.

Manchester United's dilemma with Rasmus Hojlund

Admittedly, Rasmus Hojlund endured a difficult campaign at Old Trafford last season, scoring ten times and registering four assists in 52 appearances across all competitions.

Ultimately, the Denmark international looked short of confidence in a side that frequently faltered, though he has looked sharp in pre-season and scored a goal in the Red Devils’ Premier League Summer Series triumph against Bournemouth.

Rasmus Hojlund

Despite the forward getting off the mark, Ruben Amorim has refused to commit on whether Hojlund will stay at the club, perhaps a telling sign that he could be allowed to depart if appropriate interest arises.

He stated: “I’m really happy with Rasmus, but I don’t know what is going to happen until the end of the market. The important thing is that Rasmus is scoring goals. He’s connecting really well with the team. He’s improving. Again, I don’t know what is going to happen until the market is closed. We suffered a lot because of the lack of goals last season.”

Joshua Zirkzee also played his part in leading the line last season, scoring seven times, albeit the Netherlands international is a self-proclaimed hybrid within the forward line.

Reports are beginning to accelerate that Hojlund may be about to move on, which begs the question of who could come into replace the Dane amid recent Manchester United links to the likes of Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins.

Now, the Red Devils could be about to open their chequebook with an offer that could outstrip their rivals’ pursuit of a star performer on the continent.

Manchester United to outbid Newcastle United for Benjamin Sesko

Per TEAMtalk, Manchester United will outbid Newcastle United for RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko this week, though they will be in a race against time to complete a deal to sign the clinical striker.

The Bundesliga outfit want a package of £78.3 million plus a sell-on clause inserted into his contract, and the Red Devils are expected to offer around £73.1 million, including bonuses. This does however beat Newcastle’s £69.6 million offer, add-ons factored in, albeit both are still under Leipzig’s price tag.

Labelled “powerful” by Tony Cascarino, the Slovenia international is soon set to decide on his next destination, and his representatives are in constant negotiations with all parties as the saga rumbles on.

Of course, Manchester United’s historical significance may tip the scales. However, Newcastle can offer Sesko the prospect of Champions League football, leaving a critical decision for him to make between now and the end of the window.

Romano: Man City now open talks to sign £86m "dream target" who Pep loves

Manchester City have now opened talks over a deal for a £86m star, with Pep Guardiola considered a big fan, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

Man City eyeing new forward amid Savinho uncertainty

Jack Grealish is set to leave Man City imminently, with Everton agreeing to sign the England international on a season-long loan deal, and the 29-year-old is not the only winger who could be on the move before the transfer window closes.

Indeed, Tottenham Hotspur are now ramping up their pursuit of Savinho, with the Brazilian thought to be willing to make the move to north London, if a suitable transfer fee can be negotiated by the two clubs.

As a result, Guardiola may be keen to bolster his wide options prior to the September 1st deadline, and Romano has revealed that Man City have opened talks over a deal for Real Madrid star Rodrygo, with the Brazilian now right at the top of their shortlist (via City Xtra).

In an update on X, Romano also added that the 24-year-old is City’s “dream target”, given that Guardiola is known to be a “big fan”, with Madrid willing to sanction a departure for a fee of around €100m (£86m) if the player himself makes it clear he wants to leave.

However, a deal may have to wait until the Blues finalise some departures of their own, with the likes of Savinho and James McAtee also in line to leave after Grealish.

The Citizens have made their move for an exciting target…

BySean Markus Clifford Aug 11, 2025 Rodrygo could take Man City's attack to next level

Savinho impressed at times during his debut campaign at the Etihad Stadium, picking up ten assists in the Premier League, but the Madrid forward could be a real upgrade on City’s current options, given his vast experience at the top level.

Rodrygo in action for Real Madrid.

Indeed, the Brazil international has demonstrated an ability to take big matches by the scruff of the neck in the past, most notably scoring a brace against Guardiola’s side in the second leg of the 2021-22 Champions League semi-final.

In total, the Madrid star has amassed 25 goals and 14 assists in 64 Champions League matches, showcasing his ability to perform at the highest level, and the Osasco-born forward has played a part in his side winning 13 major honours.

After enduring a rare trophyless campaign last season, Man City may be keen to bring in proven top-level players, who know what it takes to win trophies, and Rodrygo would certainly fit the bill.

Nottingham Forest have now joined the race to sign a “special” £25 million international winger, according to a new report.

Nottingham Forest in contact to sign new striker after Jesus

The Reds have made two signings so far this summer, both of whom arrived from Brazilian side Botafogo. But given the club are looking to go deep into the UEFA Conference League as well as achieve further success in the Premier League, then Nuno Espirito Santo will be wanting more arrivals before the Premier League season gets underway.

Igor Jesus, who is a striker, is one of the two players to arrive at the City Ground this summer, and he will join Chris Wood, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Emmanuel Dennis as the contracted forwards at Forest, but the latter could be free to leave the club given he has fallen down the pecking order. Meanwhile, Awoniyi’s return to action is unknown, and therefore, Forest are in the market for another centre-forward.

According to recent reports abroad, Forest have made contact with Inter Milan over the signing of Mehdi Taremi. Fulham and Turkish outfit Besiktas were already in the race to sign Taremi, but the Reds have now added his name to the list, with all three teams making contact with Inter but are now waiting for the striker to decide his next move. He could cost any side as much as £6.8 million.

Nottingham Forest join Everton in race to sign "special" £25m winger

As well as looking at new forward options, the Reds are also looking at who could replace Anthony Elanga, and according to The Express, Forest have registered their interest in signing Ben Doak from Liverpool.

Unfortunately for Forest, they are not the only team from the Premier League interested in the winger, as Doak is a “leading target” for Everton, as they have made an enquiry, but the likes of Bournemouth and Crystal Palace have also submitted enquiries about signing Doak.

It goes on to add that Doak, who has earned six caps for Scotland to date, would be open to leaving Anfield this summer, after returning from his loan spell at Middlesbrough. The 19-year-old is out of contract next summer, and therefore, Liverpool could be open to letting Doak leave, should they receive an offer worth £25 million.

This is despite the fact he has played just 10 times for the Premier League champions, but Liverpool will see his loan spell at Boro as a productive campaign, as he scored three goals in 24 league games.

Chelsea struck an agreement with UEFA to balance their squad through making sales, coming after they were fined for breaking FFP rules, and the west Londoners could face an additional fine of around £51 million if they fail to comply with regulations in the next four years.

They also need to offload players so they can register new signings for the Champions League next season.

“It’s been well documented that Chelsea have spent a lot of money in the transfer window already this summer, and they need to balance their books,” said Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol, after they agreed a deal to sell Noni Madueke to Arsenal for around £50 million.

“Last week they came to an agreement with UEFA that basically said that if they want to register new players for the Champions League next season, they have to make sure that their transfer spend this season is balanced out this summer by the players they sell as well.

“So they’ve signed players like Liam Delap and Joao Pedro. That means they also have to sell players.”

Since Madueke’s switch to Arsenal, Chelsea have agreed to sell Djordje Petrovic to Bournemouth in a deal worth £25 million, and midfielder Mathis Amougou joined Strasbourg permanently last week.

Madueke, Petrovic and Amougou join Kepa Arrizabalaga, Basir Humphreys and Marcus Bettinelli out of the Stamford Bridge exit door, so Chelsea are making progress on outgoings, and many more are expected to follow.

Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, Renato Veiga, Axel Disasi, Carney Chukwuemeka, Lesley Ugochukwu, Armando Broja and Christopher Nkunku are also likely to leave Chelsea, and they’ll listen to offers for midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

João Félix in talks to leave Chelsea and join Benfica

That is according to Standard Sport, who report that BlueCo are preparing a “ruthless” summer clearout.

Another name on the chopping block is attacking midfield flop João Félix, who spent the second half of 2024/2025 on loan at AC Milan after failing to break into Maresca’s first-team fold on a regular enough basis.

Felix re-joined Chelsea in a £46 million deal from Atlético Madrid, but his reunion with the west Londoners really hasn’t gone to plan. He’s out of Maresca’s long-term plans, and the 25-year-old could now return to boyhood club Benfica.

Standard Sport and reporter Dom Smith claim Felix is in talks over a move back to Portugal with Benfica, as Chelsea attempt to get his £130,000-per-week wages off the books for good.

They apparently won’t entertain any form of loan, either, and are determined to seal his permanent exit.

Talks have been held with the Bundesliga side over a move for their talismanic forward, who scored 21 goals in all competitions last season, with Arsenal and Leipzig reportedly negotiating to find middle ground on the fee.

While reliable reports suggest that Saudi sides are now expressing a keen interest in Sesko to rival Arsenal, the player’s priority is to remain in Europe, and it is believed by some media sources that the 22-year-old has already agreed personal terms (CaughtOffside).

There appears to be cautious optimism that a move can eventually be struck for the Slovenia international, but in case a deal falls through, Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres remains on their shortlist (Fabrizio Romano).

The Swede is fresh off an excellent campaign, where he bagged 54 goals in all competitions, helping Sporting to their first domestic double in 20 years.

Gyokeres’ ruthless finishing has attracted interest from across the continent, with Man United also rumoured to be contending for his services. However, he definitely won’t be leaving for £59 million, as Sporting president Frederico Varandas confirmed to the media this week.

Viktor Gyokeres prioritising move to Arsenal with meeting held

While a lot of negotiation still needs to be done over a potential fee, if Arsenal decide to go there in the event they cannot agree a Sesko deal, they can be encouraged by the 27-year-old’s stance on a move to the Emirates Stadium.

According to CNN journalist Nuno Farinha, speaking on CNN Portugal, Gyokeres’ agent held a meeting with Arsenal chiefs on Wednesday to lay groundwork over a potential transfer.

Farinha also says that Arsenal has always been Gyokeres’ preferred landing spot, with the ex-Coventry City star seemingly prioritising a move to north London over Man United.

While a lot of debate is surrounding Gyokeres’ price tag, especially after Varandas’ comments, Portuguese newspaper Record recently stated that Sporting have been demanding around £67 million.

“His overall game is good. He is big and strong, he can play on the ball and his finishing is ridiculously good,” said pundit John Wenham to Tottenham News.

“That would be an exciting signing.”

Newcastle battle Arsenal to sign star for less than £50m after scouts sent

Newcastle United have reportedly sent scouts to watch an “amazing” player this summer, as they look to snap him up for a relatively low fee in today’s terms.

Newcastle set to battle Arsenal on and off the pitch

Eddie Howe’s side make the trip to Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, in what represents a massive game for the Magpies for two key reasons. Most importantly, a win at the Emirates would seal Champions League football for Newcastle, which would be significant, but they would also overtake the Gunners into second place behind Liverpool. That would highlight the incredible job Howe continues to do, following the EFL Cup triumph earlier in the season.

Speaking on It’s Called Soccer, Jamie Carragher has predicted an entertaining contest in north London this weekend, backing the Magpies to come away with a point.

The importance of Champions League qualification for Newcastle cannot be downplayed, in terms of the quality of players that could sign this summer, and an exciting new rumour has now emerged.

Newcastle send scouts to watch "amazing" star

According to the reliable Craig Hope of The Daily Mail, Newcastle have sent scouts to watch Borussia Dortmund youngster Jamie Gittens, as well as goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

The Magpies see the former as a possible option to add to their attack and the report states that his release clause “will fall from £50m” if Dortmund fail to qualify for the Champions League, which is on the cards. They are one point adrift of the top four heading into the final game of the campaign this weekend, which has also prompted interest from Arsenal.

Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Bynoe-Gittensin action with Lille's Bafode Diakite

Gittens is an incredibly exciting talent, so the idea of Newcastle beating the Gunners to his signature this summer is a mouthwatering prospect. The 20-year-old has already scored 17 goals for Dortmund in 105 appearances, also chipping in with 14 assists, and scout/writer Jacek Kulig has hailed him as an “amazing” player.

Predominantly a left-sided attacking player but capable of playing across the attacking line, Gittens could battle Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes for minutes, and given his age, he should only develop as a footballer under Howe.

The fact that Newcastle could sign him for under £50m means he could also be a steal, so Magpies supporters will be rooting for Dortmund to fail to reach the Champions League this weekend.

Manager with 100% loss record vs Leicester City is now keen on Foxes job

Leicester City will soon be back in the Championship and have now lined up a potential replacement for Ruud van Nistelrooy who would be open to taking over at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester City boss Ruud van Nistelrooy's uncertain future

Truthfully, Leicester City have struggled to adapt to the Premier League and their relegation against Liverpool earlier this month proved to be something of an inevitable end result.

Ruud van Nistlerooy has been unable to turn the tide since taking over from Steve Cooper, with a return of three victories, two draws and 18 defeats across all competitions certifying that his side will return to the EFL Championship after a year in the top-flight.

The former Netherlands international is under contract until 2027, but there are naturally some doubts over his position at the club following a dismal run of results.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl is said to be on the Foxes’ list and has been evaluated internally by their hierarchy. Meanwhile, England Under-21 boss Lee Carsley has also emerged as a potential candidate.

Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior could be targeted by Leicester City following his sterling work at the BlueCo-owned Ligue 1 outfit, though he is also attracting interest at Southampton, who have their own vacancy to fill.

ByDominic Lund Feb 20, 2025

The bigger picture in the East Midlands can be altered with the right appointment. Sales will happen this summer, but there is still the makings of a talented squad to work with for whoever is chosen to lead the Foxes in the Championship.

In light of this, another progressive candidate has come to the table and may be open to taking the job at the King Power over the next few weeks.

Leicester City set for tussle over top target Russell Martin

According to The Sun, Russell Martin is Leicester City’s first choice to fill their managerial vacancy, and he is now said to be keen on being installed as their new manager should an approach be made for his services.

On the flip side, Rangers have shortlisted the 39-year-old as a candidate to take over from Barry Ferguson, creating a scenario where whoever makes the first move could land the former Southampton and Swansea City boss.

Intriguingly, he has lost every match when in the dugout against Leicester City, but his promotion-winning campaign with Southampton last term may be of interest to the Foxes as they seek a return to the Premier League in 2025/26.

Neither themselves or Rangers are in an immediate rush to make an appointment, so it remains to be seen how things will play out for the former Scotland international, who has previously been praised by Pep Guardiola for his brave tactical framework.

Ultimately, timeframes aren’t important for Leicester City, they will take their time before coming to a conclusion over who is the right man to take them forward.
