Arsenal can solve Saka problem by unleashing £265k-p/w "game-changer"

It's been an unbelievable season for Arsenal so far this year, and with two games to go, there is a real chance the club could end its two-decade wait for a Premier League title.

Mikel Arteta has created a truly brilliant team that has pushed Manchester City all the way this season, although, based on recent news, the Gunners' upcoming game against Manchester United could be about to get a lot harder.

In his pre-match press conference on Friday, Arteta confirmed that star winger Bukayo Saka is a doubt for the game at Old Trafford.

While it's not the end of the world for the north Londoners, the Englishman is arguably the most essential player in the team, although there might be a way to solve the problem if he cannot play.

Bukayo Saka's importance to Arsenal this season

With Arsenal's impressive campaign this year, several starters could legitimately claim to be their most important player, such as Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice, or even Ben White, but it's impossible to look past Saka.

In his 46 appearances this season, the Hale End superstar has scored 20 goals and provided 14 assists, meaning he is currently averaging a goal involvement every 1.35 games despite being just 22 years old.

Moreover, he isn't just the team's top goalscorer this season; he is also the top assist provider, showing just how essential he is to Arteta's system. To top it off, he has started 94% of Premier League games in 23/24.

Overall, the Ealing-born sensation is irreplaceable as an individual, but that doesn't mean there isn't a solution to this problem, a solution that could also give another star some much-needed game time.

The player to replace Saka

The man that could help Arteta solve this problem is Gabriel Jesus, as the former Manchester City ace has previous experience of playing out on the right.

In fact, while there isn't an enormous amount of data to base too much on, the £265k-per-week star actually has a better rate of return when starting out on the right than in any other position.

For example, in his 24 games on the right, he has scored eight goals and provided ten assists, meaning he averages a goal involvement every 1.33 games. In comparison, he averages a goal involvement every 1.6 games when starting in the middle and every other game when starting on the left.

The 27-year-old "game-changer", as described by Alan Shearer, would also benefit from more game time as he has been relegated to a bench role in the last few months, with Havertz firmly establishing himself as the number one striker.

Ultimately, with United likely to field a centre-back pairing of Casemiro and Jonny Evans, Arsenal should feel confident with whatever frontline they play with.

However, the prospect of Jesus and Leandro Trossard dancing around the Red Devils' defence alongside the marauding Havertz should put to bed any concerns Arteta had about missing Saka for this must-win clash.

Ten Hag must ditch Eriksen & unleash Man Utd ace who “loves a goal”

After defeating Sheffield United 4-2 on Wednesday evening, Manchester United welcome their second relegation-threatened side to Old Trafford today.

The side attempting to defeat Erik ten Hag’s team is Vincent Kompany’s Burnley, who still have a very real chance of staying in the division amid a recent upturn in form.

Nonetheless, the expectation for the Red Devils will be to display another convincing performance to the one against the Blades, minus the goals conceded.

In order for that to occur, a similar team must be fielded, but one player has to replace Christian Eriksen, who struggled in the week.

Why Eriksen must drop out of the side

Eriksen’s involvement over the last few months has been minimal, with his first start since January coming on Wednesday.

Although it wasn’t a disastrous showing, his performance was that of a player who’d had very few minutes, with Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst handing him a 5/10 rating.

The Dane was as technically comfortable as always, but he lacked any real intensity both on the ball and off it, making just one key pass out of his 56 completed.

Eriksen also offered absolutely nothing from a defensive standpoint, winning just one out of three duels, making one tackle, and being dribbled past once.

The 32-year-old was withdrawn just after the hour mark, and his replacement on the evening should return to the team this afternoon.

Why McTominay has to be unleashed against Burnley

Scott McTominay is the definition of a Marmite player; you either love him or loathe him, but there’s no denying that he’s stepped up when needed this season.

The Scottish midfielder has only started 15 Premier League matches this season, despite making 28 appearances, but his influence on the side has been huge, especially from the bench.

The 27-year-old has had some injury issues in recent weeks that stemmed from a problem in the 4-3 defeat to Chelsea, hence why he didn’t start against the Blades last time out.

However, McTominay has the exact profile that’s needed against a team like Burnley, and he could be key to helping the Red Devils pick up three points today.

As you can see from his average statistics in the Premier League this season compared to Eriksen’s, he’s a completely different profile from the number 14.

The number 39 is far less likely to impact the game from a creativity standpoint and even in terms of control, but what could make him pivotal this weekend is his ability to influence the game in the final third.

United legend Rio Ferdinand said that McTominay is a player who “loves a goal,” and his record really does speak for itself, as he’s netted seven times in the league, the joint-third most in the squad.

McTominay has become a master of making late runs into the box and being in the right place at the right time, and against a low block like Burnley, his movement could be the game-changer.

Unlike every other United player, bar Harry Maguire, McTominay provides a huge threat in the air, which will make the hosts much more dangerous from set pieces and crosses, and with the majority of space inevitably being in wide zones, that’ll be particularly key.

Furthermore, the United academy graduate does provide more defensive support than Eriksen, which will in turn make Ten Hag’s side more defensively secure and prepared for counterattacks.

Overall, although McTominay is hardly an undroppable figure in the side, he’s perfect for a fixture like today’s, and therefore, he simply has to start.

Ten Hag’s “passenger” shouldn't play for Man Utd again after 5/10 display

Report: Everton closely monitoring “elite” Bundesliga gem Maxence Lacroix

Everton are believed to be closely monitoring an "elite" player ahead of the summer transfer window, and he has the same agent as Dwight McNeil.

Everton transfer news

Everything surrounding the Blues feels so up in the air at the moment, with the Premier League status still far from secure, amid not only struggles on the pitch but the ongoing potential for further point deductions.

It is hard to overstate the importance of Everton remaining in the top flight beyond this season, in terms of their financial situation, with a move to a new stadium happening next year and 777 Partners' takeover in the balance too. Top-quality players need to be targeted in the summer transfer window, but that won't happen if the Merseysiders are playing Championship football.

Samuel Iling-Junior

The Blues do at least continue to be linked with some exciting young talent though, with Juventus "assist machine" Samuel Iling-Junior backed to seal a move to Goodison Park at the end of the season. The youngster could like the idea of a move back to England this summer, and is capable of excelling as both a left-back or in a more attack-minded role.

Celtic teenager Rocco Vata has emerged as more of a long-term option for Everton, with plenty of clubs interested in signing the 18-year-old midfielder, while there is also hope that Jack Harrison's loan move from Leeds United will become permanent in the near future.

Everton want "elite" defender this summer

According to Bild [via Sport Witness], Everton are keen on signing VfL Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix this summer, with the Blues closely monitoring him. He shares the same agent as McNeil, which could aid discussions with his representatives if the clubs agree a fee.

It is claimed in the report that the Blues have been targeting the "defensive chief" for months, as they look to strike a €20m (£17.1m) deal for his services.

Signing young players with bright futures has to be a target for Everton moving forward, rather than taking a punt on ageing figures who are past their best, and Lacroix falls into the first category, having attracted interest from city rivals Liverpool as a youngster.

The 23-year-old has shone for Wolfsburg over an extended period of time now, making 124 appearances for the Bundesliga side in total. This season, he has started 22 league games and appeared 23 times in the competition overall, enjoying an average of 4.1 clearances and 2.1 aerial duel wins per game in that time.

Journalist Tobias Kroger has heaped praise on his adaptability: "Maxence Lacroix! Came from Ligue 2 to Wolfsburg and after 3/4 of the season he’s an elite defender talent!"

Boost for Everton as Premier League to reach takeover decision imminently

Some much-needed good news for the Toffees…

By
Tom Cunningham

Apr 3, 2024

Given the price tag being talked about, Lacroix could be an absolute bargain at Everton this summer, and the Blues should be using the fact that he is out of contract at Wolfsburg in 2025 as a bargaining tool, with the German side not wanting to lose him for free next year.

Rangers prepare approach for "infectious" star to repeat Kent masterclass

Glasgow Rangers have possibly their biggest match of the season so far to come this weekend as they welcome their fierce rivals to Ibrox on Sunday.

The Light Blues are currently second in the Scottish Premiership and one point behind their upcoming opponents, who have played one game more than Philippe Clement's side, ahead of this match.

This means that a place at the top of the table is up for grabs for the winner, as they both fight it out to secure the title before the end of the season.

Clement's men still have the league and the SFA Cup to fight for, having already won the League Cup, before they can focus on the summer transfer window to improve their squad.

However, the Gers are already looking at possible moves to make ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, if reports are to be believed, including making one of their current loans a permanent deal.

Latest Rangers transfer news

According to Football Insider, Rangers are keen to secure a permanent swoop to sign Portuguese forward Fabio Silva from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Light Blues brought the Portugal U21 international in on loan from the Premier League side at the start of the January transfer window, and have seemingly seen enough from him to convince them to bring him back for the 2024/25 campaign and beyond.

Football Insider report that the Scottish giants are preparing to make contact 'soon' with Wolves over a deal to keep the versatile forward on a permanent basis.

Fabio Silva

The outlet adds that Rangers will not be able to afford a big-money move for the former record-signing for the Old Gold, who snapped him up from Porto for a staggering £35m.

He has only scored five goals and provided six assists in 72 first-team appearances for the English side since the young gem made that eye-catching move as a teenager in 2020.

The report claims that the Gers are hoping that Wolves' need to sell to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations will work in their favour in negotiations, as they want to agree a cut-price fee for his services.

Rangers could, should they agree a deal with the Old Gold to snap Silva up permanently during the upcoming summer transfer window, repeat the masterclass they played with Ryan Kent under Steven Gerrard.

Rangers' Ryan Kent masterclass

The English winger was signed on loan from Premier League side Liverpool in the summer of 2018 to bolster the club's attacking options on the flank.

He enjoyed a superb first season on the left wing with a return of six goals and nine assists in 43 appearances in all competitions for the club, including six goals and six assists in 27 matches in the Premiership.

That fantastic form earned him the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award at the end of the 2018/19 season, and the Gers then opted to sign him on a permanent deal for a reported fee of £7.5m in the summer of 2019.

His output did not immediately improve during the 2019/20 campaign, as the forward produced eight goals and four assists in all competitions for Gerrard, but his form the following season was well worth the wait for all involved.

As you can see in the table above, Kent went on to rack up a staggering 13 goals and 14 assists domestically and in Europe combined throughout that term.

His phenomenal attacking contributions helped Rangers to win the Premiership title, going unbeaten in the process, and was named in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year.

Before his free transfer to Fenerbahce last summer, Kent produced 33 goals and 56 assists in 218 appearances for the Scottish giants in all competitions throughout his career in Ibrox.

Therefore, the Light Blues played a masterclass with the English wizard as they signed him permanently after his impressive loan and enjoyed his talents, as a scorer and a creator of goals, over the course of many years.

Why Rangers should sign Fabio Silva

Rangers could now repeat that masterclass by signing another young Premier League loanee on a permanent deal after an initial loan in Glasgow – Silva.

The 21-year-old marksman, whose work rate was hailed as "infectious" by Connor Goldson, has produced four goals in 14 appearances for the club in all competitions this year, although only nine of those outings have been as a starter.

Fabio Silva

Along with those four goals, Silva also won a penalty against Motherwell and was denied an assist when his fantastic pass deflected slightly to find Dujon Sterling – who scored inside the box – against Benfica in Portugal.

The versatile whiz, who has earned his place in the starting XI on the left flank, has showcased his goalscoring potential, which was also on display with his two goals in two games for Portugal's U21s during the March international break.

Silva had showed signs of his attacking prowess at youth level for Porto prior to his big-money move to Wolves back in 2020, with a sublime return of five goals and four assists in nine Youth League appearances for the Portuguese giants.

The right-footed whiz, who only turns 22 this summer, is a young player with plenty of room to grow and improve over the years to come, which was also the case when Kent signed permanently.

Ibrox could be the perfect place for him to play regular, competitive, first-team football so that he can realise his potential and emerge as a consistent performer in the final third, which he has already shown signs of with four goals in nine starts for the Gers.

His lightning-quick feet and forward-thinking dynamic play make him an exciting player to watch, much like Kent was on the left flank during his time in Scotland, and Rangers must now do all they can to secure a permanent deal for his services.

If they can get a move over the line then they could be on their way to playing yet another transfer masterclass with a talented young winger from the Premier League.

Aston Villa’s 3/10 star was saved by Watkins against Brentford

Aston Villa were looking to bounce back from their midweek defeat to Manchester City at home to Brentford on Saturday, although things didn’t quite go as anticipated.

The Midlands side held a two-goal lead after goals from Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers, before the Bees roared back by scoring three goals in just seven minutes, taking full advantage of Villa’s poor defence.

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins

Watkins scored his second with just ten minutes left to salvage a point, yet it gives Tottenham Hotspur a boost in the chase for a top four finish in the Premier League.

Ollie Watkins saved the day for Villa

Prior to the match, Watkins last scored in the top flight in the 3-2 win against Luton at the start of March, but his two goals certainly saved Villa from another defeat.

Along with his goals, the striker also succeeded with 100% of his dribble attempts, won seven of his ten contested duels and was fouled three times during the match, proving to be quite the menace against the Brentford defence.

In this sort of form, Watkins is a huge threat, yet he was let down by the Villa back four who struggled to remain composed, especially while leading by two goals.

Ezri Konsa in particular endured something of a horror show, and if it wasn’t for Watkins stealing a point towards the end of the game, his performance may have come in for harsher criticism.

Ezri Konsa’s game in numbers vs Brentford

Journalist Jacob Tanswell criticised the Villa defence during the match, saying: “Every Brentford goal has started and came down Villa's right side and between the two centre backs.”

Konsa was largely at fault during the Bees' sensational run when they scored three goals in a matter of minutes, while he was given a rating of just 3/10 by Birmingham World for his display.

Charlie Haffenden said Konsa ‘really struggled up against Reguilon’ during the match as his crosses proved to be a key component of their comeback.

Ezri Konsa before a game with Aston Villa.

The Englishman was playing at right-back due to Matty Cash’s injury and during the game, he managed to take 104 touches while completing 93% of his passes.

However, Konsa won just three of his six contested duels against Brentford, made just one tackle while losing the ball on ten occasions as he really struggled to cope when the Bees were on the attack.

There is no doubt his display cost Villa all three points and Unai Emery will be hoping Cash recovers sooner rather than later ahead of a crucial few weeks.

Thoughts will now turn towards the Europa Conference League, where there is less pressure to succeed, with Villa taking on French side Lille in the quarter-finals of the event.

The first leg is at Villa Park, which could allow the club to build up a lead to take over to France ahead of the second leg. Having not won a major trophy for 28 years, Emery will be targeting European success, especially with how strong a squad he has at his disposal.

If Konsa starts the match, he will have to vastly improve, there is no doubt about that.

Former Man Utd ace was meant to be next Ronaldo and is now struggling

The first impression is always vital when a new player arrives at a club, especially for a side like Manchester United.

When anyone joins the Red Devils, whether it be a player or a manager, the expectation is to bring success and perform almost instantly.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag speaks toAntony

In recent years, only a handful of signings have consistently performed at Old Trafford, with the likes of Antony and Jadon Sancho being examples of individuals who have been unable to star in the Premier League thus far.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at another player who once promised to be a world-beater but instead failed to live up to their apparent potential.

Meet the star who was meant to be the next Cristiano Ronaldo

In 2011, a promising Belgian talent named Adnan Januzaj joined Man United from Anderlecht as a 16-year-old, where he instantly impressed.

On October 5th, 2013, the number 44 was announced in the starting lineup for the first time under David Moyes as Man United faced Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

The then-18-year-old was absolutely electric, netting a brace that handed the Red Devils a 2-1 win, which was certainly the perfect way to introduce yourself to the footballing world.

After the game, Januzaj received plenty of praise and encouragement, with Moyes comparing his quality to Wayne Rooney and United youth coach Eric Harrison stating: “Januzaj is outstanding and I think he is similar to Cristiano Ronaldo".

However, the following season saw the arrival of Louis van Gaal, which the winger later claimed to be the reason why he never lived up to his potential at United, despite being an "unbelievable" talent, as per football creator Liam Canning.

Roy Keane's “biggest disappointment" has now become "superb" for Man Utd

The United star has had a remarkable turnaround after a difficult start.

ByTom Lever Mar 14, 2024 Adnan Januzaj’s career since his debut

During the Dutch manager’s first campaign at the club, Januzaj’s minutes and opportunities took a huge hit, starting just seven times in the 2014/15 Premier League.

A year later, the Belgium international only made just two league starts across the campaign, which was due to two separate injuries and a short loan spell at Borussia Dortmund.

With the left-footed ace failing to progress much further, in 2016, he joined Sunderland on a season-long loan in an attempt to revive his career, but over 25 matches, he failed to score a single goal.

In 2017, Januzaj eventually left Old Trafford after a troubled few seasons, joining Real Sociedad in a deal worth £9.8m, a club he would go on to score 23 goals in 168 appearances for.

Five years later, the former Red Devil moved to another La Liga side, this time joining Sevilla on a free transfer, which is where he plays his football today.

Despite being at the club for two seasons, Januzaj has only made 17 appearances, with a failed loan spell at Istanbul Basaksehir in between, where he scored three times in 17 games.

Fast-forward to this season, and the former wonderkid has featured just eight times, even though he has not suffered from any injuries. Januzaj has averaged just 24 minutes per game, and he truly cannot get a game, starting zero times.

At just 29 years of age, the number 25’s career has become completely stagnant, and there have been no signs of him turning it around, especially not at Sevilla.

In truth, it is extremely sad and disappointing to see how Januzaj’s career has unfolded, especially considering just how fantastic he was in his first season under Moyes, after being compared to the legendary Ronaldo in his early days at Old Trafford.

Sexy football is back! England must take inspiration from brave Spain's Euro 2024 triumph when preparing for 2026 World Cup

La Roja have proved that you don't have to be boring to win international trophies following their thrilling run in Germany

Sometimes football can be straightforward. Over the coming days, England's Euro 2024 campaign will be relentlessly dissected from all angles – and there's a lot to get through.

Why did Harry Kane move with the verve of an arthritis-stricken manatee all tournament, for example? Could we not have subjected Kieran Trippier to dangerous, experimental surgery to make him left-footed? And why did Declan Rice seem to forget England were playing in white in Berlin?

All of these posers are worthy of extensive analysis. However, the final itself can be understood fairly simply: Spain are a better football team than England, so they won.

La Roja's triumph wasn't down to having a vastly-superior talented squad, though. As we've heard so many times over the past year or so, this might just be the best Three Lions group in history, especially in terms of strength in depth, while Spain even had to fare without Player of the Tournament Rodri for the entirety of the second half.

Instead, Luis de la Fuente's side's emergence as the standout Euro 2024 team was a result of their brave playing style and well-balanced team selections. And it's a campaign that the Football Association should look at closely as they map out the country's likely post-Gareth Southgate future.

Getty Innovation mixed with familiarity

Right from the outset, Spain have been the footballing story of the tournament. Their opener against Croatia marked an extremely significant moment for a nation that has worshipped at the altar of tiki-taka for the best part of two decades.

In their maiden outing at Euro 2024, De la Fuente's charges registered a lower share of the possession than their opponents for the first time in 136 matches. All the hallmarks that would go on to make this Spain side special were present in that encounter.

Flying wingers Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal were unplayable for significant spells, adding a refreshing directness to proceedings that had been lacking under Luis Enrique. Rodri was coolness personified and complemented nicely by the tidy-but-expansive Fabian Ruiz and pass-master Pedri. Alvaro Morata, not always universally appreciated, played his part as the selfless, nuisance centre-forward too.

Their performance earned them plenty of admirers, as well as a 3-0 win. There was much more success to come, too.

AdvertisementGetty ImagesBest tournament team in recent memory

Spain completed the group stage with a 100 percet winning record, first downing Italy in the most one-sided 1-0 victory of all time, before a much-rotated side beat Albania by the same scoreline. This set up a last-16 meeting with Georgia.

The minnows would take the lead thanks to a Robin Le Normand own goal, though four different scorers ensured that there would be no repeat of Spain's shock World Cup elimination at the hands of Morocco. The attacking fluency they showed that day was quite incredible, with a 76% share of possession resulting in 35 shots on goal.

Germany in the quarter-finals presented a more intimidating challenge, but they found a way as La Roja's marvellous midfield trio showcased their talents. Substitute Mikel Merino was the hero, grabbing the extra-time winner, but early sub Dani Olmo, Rodri and Fabian were all sensational, pressing as a unit and using the ball positively to help send one of the favourites out.

France were slain next, in what will go down in history as Lamine Yamal's coming-out party to the world. The teenager scored a world-class equaliser before Olmo provided his own moment of magic to settle proceedings and book a place in the final.

Spain were heavy favourites against England and, after edging the first half, began to carve open their opponents after the interval. Williams found the breakthrough inside two second-half minutes, and if it wasn't for some lame finishing and Jordan Pickford's heroics between the sticks, the game would've been over before Cole Palmer equalised with an exquisite strike.

As it turned out, though, this was simply a pothole on Spain's procession to the title. Four minutes from time, Mikel Oyarzabal finished off a typically incisive counter-attack to ensure football came home – to Spain, that is.

GettyEasy on the eye

When you look back at their run to the title, it's impossible to not be seriously impressed. Placed in a tricky group and then on the difficult side of the draw, Spain still managed to become the first team to win seven games at a European Championship.

This wasn't solely a triumph of results, though. Spain's feat is made all the more noteworthy by just how watchable they've been. Free-flowing, full of energy out of possession and capable of keeping hold of the ball with relative ease when they need, they've looked like an elite club side in a sea of relative dysfunction this tournament.

Their bravery and confidence has been eye-catching, too. Only Portugal averaged more progressive carries per 90 minutes at Euro 2024, and they also made the top four for take-ons attempted, carries into the final third and progressive passes.

GettyChallenging the status quo

Witnessing the best footballing team of the tournament lift the trophy has also challenged the orthodoxy of recent international tournaments. At Euro 2016, Portugal quite frankly stunk up the place going forward, before clutching a dramatic final victory against France.

Didier Deschamps' side have hardly been entertainers themselves, either. Considering the insane talent at Les Bleus' disposal, the amount of eye-catching displays they've treated us to over the past eight years is staggeringly low, with solidity being prioritised above all else. Even at the most-recent World Cup, Lionel Scaloni's victorious Argentina were shocked by Saudi Arabia in the opening game and were far from convincing during the knockout stages, relying on grit and determination to get the job done.

These case studies have resulted in a widely-held belief that in order to triumph at tournaments, you need to adopt a safety-first approach. England boss Gareth Southgate certainly subscribed to this particular truth, especially after their World Cup exit in 2022. In Qatar, the Three Lions played the most entertaining football of his reign, only to crash out in the quarter-finals.

Scarred from that experience, he largely opted to revert to type by keeping things safer this tournament, instructing his charges to remain compact before counting on substitutions or individual moments of xG-defying magic to win games. Reaching the final might suggest his methods have been vindicated, but playing in this way means you must be pretty much spotless defensively or exceedingly lucky. They were neither in Berlin.

The £150k-p/w Aston Villa dynamo who could replace Kamara

Aston Villa battled to a crucial 2-1 win over Fulham in the Premier League on the weekend and the victory keeps them ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United as the race for the fourth Champions League spot heats up.

Unai Emery relied on the brilliance of Ollie Watkins during the clash as he scored another brace, which took his tally to 18 for the season. With more than three months left of the campaign, the Englishman could potentially break through the 30-goal barrier.

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins

Villa did secure the win without being able to call upon Boubacar Kamara, however, as the Frenchman suffered a serious injury against the Red Devils recently.

Boubacar Kamara’s injury woes

The former Marseille midfielder was emerging as one of Emery’s key men on the pitch, working well alongside Douglas Luiz in a solid midfield duo.

Against United, though, the 24-year-old tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and was subsequently ruled out for the rest of the campaign.

“We've had two injuries for a long time, for all the season, with Buendia and Mings,” lamented Emery after the match.

"Now it's the same for Kamara. Maybe, more or less, in September or October he is coming back."

It is a big blow for the club and while Luiz and John McGinn formed the midfield pairing on the weekend, Emery could unleash one of his summer signings to a new role within the side, as a defensive midfielder next to the Brazilian gem.

Youri Tielemans could move back to partner Douglas Luiz

The Belgian midfielder has not exactly enjoyed the most productive of starts to his Villa career, starting just seven Premier League matches under the Spaniard.

While he has registered five goal contributions in the top flight – one goal and four assists – the 5 foot 9 whiz has often been deployed across a whole host of positions, including as a centre-forward, attacking midfielder, and even as a left-winger on one occasion, with only one top-flight minute played as a defensive midfielder.

Last season for Leicester City, the 26-year-old played 23 times as a central midfielder and scored four goals along with grabbing an assist, proving that he can be effective from a slightly deeper position.

Despite the Foxes being relegated last season, Tielemans ranked highly among the squad on a range of metrics, including second for big chances created (ten), fifth for key passes per game (one), fourth for successful dribbles per game (0.8) and accurate passes per game (41.2), indicating that he was one of their finer performers during what turned out to be a poor season.

This shows that he has the ability to play, and excel, as a deep-lying midfielder in the Premier League, rather than as an attacking midfielder or winger, and that is why he could be unleashed in a new permanent role for Villa now that Kamara is out for the remainder of the campaign.

Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans.

Lauded as “incredible” by talent scout Jacek Kulig in 2019 as he reached nearly 300 senior matches despite being only 22, the £150k-per-week dynamo could forge a solid partnership alongside Luiz in Kamara’s absence.

McGinn would thus be moved out to the left-hand side of the midfield, and it could allow Emery to start Watkins and Moussa Diaby up top in a 4-4-2 formation.

Filling in for the injured Frenchman could perhaps give the midfielder a new lease of life in a new role as a defensive midfielder for the side in the Premier League and begin to show his true talents, which he has yet to display whilst donning Villa colours.

Losing Kamara is a mighty blow, but if Emery can bring the best out of Tielemans in his absence, it could well be a blessing in disguise.

Manager who West Ham have wanted for a long time is open to English move

West Ham United have been eyeing one "creative" manager for a long time, and it is believed that he's open to making a move to England.

West Ham exploring Moyes alternatives amid dwindling contract

Current head coach David Moyes finds himself under fire once again, following a winless start to 2024 which has seen the Hammers slide further down the league table.

Heavy defeats to the likes of Arsenal and Man United certainly haven't helped Moyes' case either, with the Scotsman front and centre to backlash from some supporters who believe he's taken them as far as they can.

West Ham won their first major trophy in nearly 40 years under Moyes last term, lifting the UEFA Europa Conference League title in Prague, but flirted with relegation to the Championship domestically.

Their league form hasn't been great since the summer of 2022, with Moyes also nearly getting sacked by West Ham last year as well. As the 60-year-old's contract looks set to expire at the end of this season as things stand, it is widely reported that West Ham are considering alternative managerial options to Moyes.

“I can confirm that the club are looking at alternative options,” stated club insider ExWHUemployee this week.

"Tim Steidten is the man heavily involved and leading the potential drive to replace Moyes, should he depart. There have been various names mentioned in the press, however at this stage its very early, with the club still hoping David Moyes turns the situation around. The club though are, and rightly so, planning ahead should the manager depart.”

A few names have been linked with the potentially vacant post already, but one standout name is Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel, who is now confirmed to be leaving this summer after the Bundesliga club's announcement.

The 50-year-old, who won a Champions League title as head coach of Chelsea in 2021, hasn't exactly had the best time in Bavaria as they fall far behind Bayer Leverkusen in the race for a Bundesliga title.

If Tuchel's side miss out on the German top-flight crown, it will be for the first time since Borussia Dortmund pipped them to the title in 2012.

Tuchel open to English move as West Ham hold "long-standing" interest

According to The Daily Mail and journalist Sami Mokbel this week, West Ham hold a "long-standing" interest in Tuchel, and it is believed the German is open to making a move back to England.

However, the Hammers may not be the only side in pursuit of a new head coach this summer, with the likes of Liverpool also named as potential contenders for Tuchel.

The former PSG boss is an elite name, and Man City's Pep Guardiola has previously lavished him with praise.

"He’s so creative with good build-up and connection, good runners and players who are good in the spaces," said Guardiola on Tuchel before their Champions League final clash in 2021.

“Both [Tuchel and Nagelsmann] are so creative with the shape they play."
