Celtic: Journo drops Michut transfer claim

Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph has dropped a claim regarding Celtic’s reported transfer interest in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Edouard Michut.

What’s the talk?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Joseph had this to say on the matter: “Michut has played six games in Ligue 1 and is very much seen as a hot prospect at PSG, but there’s been a falling out with the hierarchy and the new manager.

“Well, not a falling out, but he’s not seen in the first-team plans, so he’s looking to move and because of that he could go for quite cheap.

“One source had told us that Celtic were looking at coming with a £2m offer, but I believe it’s probably going to take £4m-£5m for him to move, so I think that’s still one to watch.”

Celtic fans will be buzzing

After it emerged that the Bhoys were looking to secure a deal for the 19-year-old, Ange Postecoglou poured cold water on the subject by saying that the club were not in for the youngster.

However, taking into account what Joseph has now said on the matter and how highly he claims the player is rated at the French club, this should have a lot of Celtic fans excited over a potential move for the 19-year-old this summer.

Over five league appearances last season, the teenager completed 52 of the 55 passes he attempted, while also making three shot-creating actions.

From a defensive point of view, the Frenchman won two tackles and made two clearances, two blocks and 22 pressures.

This shows how well-rounded midfield a option he could be for Celtic should they end up securing a deal for him this summer.

Even though it has been confirmed by the Hoops on Tuesday afternoon that they have signed 31-year-old Aaron Mooy, securing a much younger midfielder such as Michut could be a great long-term investment for the club given his age and clear talent.

Also, having seen the likes of Ewan Henderson, Luca Connell and Kerr McInroy leave the club recently, there is certainly room for another young midfield prodigy to join the ranks at Parkhead and see if they have what it takes to break into the first team.

West Ham: Romano drops Lingard update

Fabrizio Romano has dropped an update on reported West Ham United transfer target Jesse Lingard.

What’s the latest?

In a recent post on Twitter, the Italian journalist revealed that, despite recent reports suggesting that Nottingham Forest are looking to hijack Rob Newman’s move for the 29-year-old this summer, West Ham nevertheless remain in the race for the former Manchester United forward’s signature – with the player expected to make a final decision on his future in the coming days.

In his tweet, Romano said: “Nottingham Forest have made an important proposal to Jesse Lingard as Jacob Steinberg reported – but West Ham are still in the race with their proposal on the table. Player decision expected soon, both clubs are on it.”

Supporters will love Romano’s update

While it is undeniable that Forest’s late move for Lingard will be a cause for concern for the West Ham faithful, Romano’s suggestion that the Hammers are still well and truly in the race for the England international, in addition to the transfer insider’s claim that the 29-year-old will make a decision on his future soon, is sure to be news the London Stadium faithful will love.

Indeed, while it is true that the £16.2m-rated talent had become something of a bit part player at Old Trafford in recent years – starting just 11 Premier League fixtures for the Red Devils over the last three seasons – the academy graduate nevertheless returned an impressive 35 goals and 21 assists over his 232 appearances for the club – only 143 of which came as starts.

Furthermore, the £75k-per-week attacker very much caught the eye during a loan spell in east London in the back end of the 2020/21 campaign, scoring nine goals and registering five assists over sixth-place finish in the league that season.

And, while it is being reported that Forest are prepared to offer the 32-cap international a lucrative wage packet in a bid to tempt him into a move to The City Ground ahead of one the London Stadium this summer, the fact that the Irons can offer the 29-year-old European football, as well as the prospect of challenging for another top-six finish in the league next season, is sure to weigh in the favour of the east London outfit.

Either way, Romano’s latest update is undoubtedly good news for supporters of the Hammers, who will be waiting with bated breath to discover where Lingard will decide he wants to spend the prime years of his career.

Alasdair Gold drops Spurs transfer claim

Tottenham Hotspur have turned their attention towards a surprising transfer plan…

What’s the word?

According to ever-reliable football.london reporter Alasdair Gold, Spurs will be monitoring strikers ahead of a potential swoop for the remainder of the current transfer window, which ends on September 1st.

“From what I understand, they’re gonna continue to monitor opportunities for any strikers out there,” he told the ‘Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham’ podcast.

This is despite signing Richarlison in a £60m deal from Everton.

Intriguing claim

Both manager Antonio Conte and sporting director Fabio Paratici have bolstered the playing squad in preparation for the new campaign, where Spurs will be competing in the Champions League.

Largely, the Italian head coach now has the strength in depth required to compete across all fronts with rotation not likely to weaken the team. However, it appears he is not completely happy yet as he is clearly targeting a new forward.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-much-more-2″ title=”Read the latest Spurs news, transfer rumours and more!”]

Perhaps, the versatile Brazilian is not seen as an out-and-out alternative to Harry Kane but rather an attacker who can play anywhere across the front line. If that’s the case, then the Lilywhites still need a new frontman.

RB Salzburg sensation Benjamin Sesko, widely touted to be the “next Erling Haaland”, is thought to be among the targets, according to some reports.

If Gold’s comments are anything to go by, then Spurs are by no means finished in the transfer market, even though they have made as many as five new additions.

It could also hint about the future of Harry Kane, who is yet to sign a new contract at Hotspur Way after the Evening Standard hinted at a new deal in May 2022. He was linked heavily with a move to Manchester City last summer, whilst United have always been mooted with interest.

Either way, it is an exciting time to be a Spurs supporter right now, so those around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium should be buzzing by these latest claims from Gold.

Tottenham: Journalist shares Hincapie development

Tottenham Hotspur aren’t just trying to sign Premier League striker Richarlison, as reports are also emerging of a move for Bundesliga defender Piero Hincapie.

The Lowdown: Conte wants new defender…

The Lilywhites and head coach Antonio Conte are said to be chasing a world class central defensive upgrade for the north Londoners’ back three, coming after they sealed deals for Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Yves Bissouma.

Spurs are also said to be in talks over signing Richarlison from Everton as transfer chief Fabio Paratici and Conte show no sign of slowing down ahead of what will be an entertaining 2022/2023 season.

Links to various defenders have come to light in the last few days alone as Paratici continues to spin various plates.

The Latest: Duran makes Hincapie claim…

As per journalist Marcos Duran of Relevo, it appears a development has come to light on Spurs’ hunt for Bayer Leverkusen star Hincapie.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-developments-2/” title=”Tottenham latest updates” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Indeed, as shared by the South American reporter, Tottenham have been in contact over signing the Ecuador international and this may just be the ‘beginning’.

He explained (via Twitter):

“As reported in Italy and Germany, both Milan and Tottenham were contacted by the Ecuadorian Piero Hincapié, a

@bayer04_es player.

“Player and club, in talks to improve the contract. He wants to play in the Champions League, but the market is just beginning.”

The Verdict: Take it further?

Reports state it will take a £34 million fee for Spurs to sign Hincapie this summer but his glowing endorsements in past years suggest he could be worth it.

The 20-year-old, who would come to north London with many years ahead in a promising career, has already been called ‘South America’s best young defender’ by his former club president Andres Fassi.

Quite the tag, it’s hardly a surprise Hincapie has caught Spurs’ attention after starting 20 games in a breakthrough Bundesliga campaign, and this could well be one to watch over as the summer window progresses.

Man Utd: Alex Crook makes Abraham claim

TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook has made a claim involving Manchester United and a potential pursuit of AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham.

The lowdown: A star is reborn

Signed by the Serie A outfit for £34m in 2021 as he linked up with ex-United and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho (BBC), the 24-year-old has been nothing short of a revelation in Italy.

He scored nine times in 13 outings as Roma became the inaugural winners of the Europa Conference League, recapturing the form he once showed on loan at Aston Villa.

Unsurprisingly, the upturn in fortunes has led to interest from the Premier League, with one journalist now suggesting that the Red Devils could be watching on with intent.

The latest: United have ‘looked at’ Abraham

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Crook suggested that Erik ten Hag might turn to the 10-cap England striker after missing out on Liverpool-bound Darwin Nunez.

The talkSPORT man said: “It wouldn’t surprise me if they were sounding out Tammy Abraham again. I know they’ve looked at him in the past and he’s done well in Italy, but Mourinho is the problem.

“We spoke to him on our Boot Room programme a few weeks ago and seems quite settled in Italy, so whether they could tempt him, I don’t know.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-man-utd-updates-3/” title=”Latest Man Utd updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The verdict: Worth the risk?

Previously mooted as only being available should an eye-watering €80m (£67m) asking price be met, signing Abraham for such a lofty figure would certainly represent a gamble from the new-look Old Trafford recruitment setup.

After leaving the Premier League with 26 goals in 89 appearances, the 24-year-old – who was previously hailed as ‘lethal’ by former England marksman Gary Lineker – scored 26 times in 52 appearances across all competitions last season.

The 6 foot 3 Englishman – who may be suited to Ten Hag’s style based on the success of Sebastian Haller at Ajax last term – earned a superb 7.06 Sofascore rating whilst winning 5.2 duels, making one key pass and attempting 2.6 shots per league game.

That return to top form, combined with the homegown factor and his ideal age, would make Abraham a worthwhile addition to the Manchester United ranks, particularly as Ten Hag possible looks towards finding a long-term successor to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Spurs: Rossi drops Bremer update

Gian Luca Rossi has dropped an update on the future of reported Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Gleison Bremer.

What’s the talk?

In a recent interview with Milan-based television network Telelombardia (via Sport Witness), the Italian journalist revealed that – following Alessandro Bastoni’s agent, Tulio Tinti, revealing the 23-year-old will remain at Inter Milan this summer – Antonio Conte will now turn his focus in the summer transfer market towards the Torino centre-back.

Previous reports had claimed that Simone Inzaghi’s side have already agreed a four-year deal with the 25-year-old ahead of a summer switch from Turin to Milan, however, with Fabio Paratici now set to launch a €50m (£43m) bid for the Brazilian, Inter’s move for Bremer now appears to be in doubt.

Regarding Tottenham’s interest in the defender, Rossi said: “It is no mystery that Antonio Conte likes Bastoni. Indeed, from the information I have gathered, Conte is ready to put a spoke in the wheel at Inter. The message that Conte sent to Inter is more or less: if you don’t leave Bastoni with me, I’ll go to Bremer.”

Inzaghi will be livid

Considering just how impressive Bremer was for Torino this season, in addition to the fact that Inter previously looked to have all but confirmed the centre-back’s arrival at the San Siro this summer, the news that Spurs are now set to make their own move for the 25-year-old is sure to have left Inzaghi livid.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/tottenham-hotspur-latest-news-updates-transfer-rumours-gossip-spurs-thfc-conte-paratici” title= “Read the latest Spurs news, transfer rumours and more!”]

Indeed, over his 33 Serie A appearances this season, the £31.5m-rated talent was imperious in the heart of Ivan Juric’s defence, helping Il Toro keep eight clean sheets, as well as making an average of 3.2 interceptions, 1.5 tackles, 4.0 clearances and winning 6.6 duels per game.

The £18k-per-week left-footer also impressed in an attacking capacity, scoring three goals and registering one assist, in addition to taking an average of 0.8 shots, making 35.3 passes and completing 0.5 dribbles per fixture.

These returns saw the player who Ryan Taylor dubbed both “unbelievable” and “faultless” average a quite remarkable SofaScore match rating of 7.13, not only ranking him as Juric’s best performing outfielder in the league but also as the fifth-best defender in Serie A as a whole.

As such, should Paratici manage to steal Bremer from under the noses of Inzaghi and Inter this summer, it would undoubtedly come as a huge blow to the Nerazzurri, while also providing Conte with an excellent alternative to Bastoni on the left of his three-man backline at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Bielik warned against Rooney’s Derby wish

Derby County defender Krystian Bielik has been told by his Poland international manager that he must leave the club if he has any hopes of playing for his country at the World Cup later this year.

The Lowdown: Bielik profiled

The 24-year-old first arrived at Pride Park for an undisclosed fee from Premier League side Arsenal three years ago, where he has since gone on to make 49 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring three goals during that time, as per Transfermarkt.

Despite the centre-back still having two years remaining on his current contract with the Rams, he’s been advised – one could even say warned – to think about departing the Midlands outfit in the coming months.

The Latest: Michniewicz sends clear transfer message

When speaking during an interview with Sport TVP (as quoted by DerbyshireLive), Poland coach Czeslaw Michniewicz revealed that he’s made Bielik aware that he won’t be boarding the plane to Qatar if he is still playing League One football next season. He said:

“I told Krystian that he would not go to the World Cup playing at League One level. I know he has a two-year contract, but he has to leave.

“Even if all the players stay there, including the coach.

“From third-tier level to the World Cup, it will be hard to go and compete with the best. We must have players playing in the best teams, because there will be very little time to prepare.”

The Verdict: Rooney disagrees

Despite being relegated from the Championship just weeks ago, Derby boss Wayne Rooney has claimed that he is ‘absolutely’ confident that Bielik will still be a Rams player at the start of the new campaign, and it’s no surprise to see why he’s such a big fan.

This season alone, the 6 foot 2 colossus has averaged 2.3 long balls, 1.1 tackles, and 1.1 clearances per league 90 minutes, alongside winning 1.9 of his aerial duels, via WhoScored, displaying his physical presence in that defensive backline.

With Chris Kirchner’s takeover of the club close to officially going through after announcing that he’s exchanged contracts for the sale, this now means that with funding about to restart, Rooney can begin planning his major summer rebuild in a bid to bounce back up to the second-tier at the first time of asking next year.

In other news… a journalist has delivered a huge update on the potential sale of Pride Park.

Man Utd have a clear run at Declan Rice

According to ESPN, Manchester United are emerging as the favourites to sign West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice.

The lowdown: Rice a wanted man

The 23-year-old has quickly become one of the hottest properties in European football following a rapid rise to prominence for both club and country.

Having left the acclaimed Chelsea academy to join West Ham in 2013, Rice has become an established member of David Moyes’ side, and also for Gareth Southgate at international level following a switch of allegiances from the Republic of Ireland.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-man-utd-news/” title=”Latest Man Utd news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

With interest previously mooted from Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool, a fresh update has suggested that Old Trafford could be the most likely destination for the midfielder…

The latest: United frontrunners to sign Rice

As per ESPN sources, the Red Devils could have a ‘clear run’ at the 29-cap England star this summer.

The report states that United want Rice to become a ‘modern-day version’ of Paul Ince and will look to snap up the enforcer at the end of the season.

It’s also claimed that incoming manager Erik ten Hag will view the man likened to United legend Roy Keane by Stuart Pearce – who also called the 23-year-old “dynamic” – as a ‘statement signing’ as the Dutchman attempts to stamp his authority on the Premier League.

The verdict: No brainer

With United set to wave goodbye to Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard, there are certainly spaces to be filled in the Old Trafford squad.

Despite a lofty £150m price tag handed down by Moyes, Rice could be worth the investment in the long run owing to his tender years and already top-class productivity.

So far this season, the powerful midfielder has earned an outstanding 7.17 average Sofascore rating whilst boasting a 92% passing accuracy and winning five duels and 2.1 tackles per game in the Premier League.

Therefore, it seems a no-brainer for United to try and bring him to Old Trafford, particularly if they are now in such a dominant position to win the race for his services.

Guardiola close to new Man City contract

Manchester City are growing increasingly confident that manager Pep Guardiola will sign a new contract extension at the club, according to a report by The Mirror.

The Lowdown: Plenty of silverware

The 51-year-old first joined the Sky Blues back in 2016 when he took over the reins from Manuel Pellegrini, and has since gone on to enjoy plenty of success in the top flight, winning Premier Leagues, FA Cups, and Carabao Cups galore.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/man-city-newest-updates/” title=”Man City newest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Spaniard’s current contract with the Citizens is set to expire next summer, and there will no doubt be plenty of City fans that think Guardiola will walk away if he lifts the Champions League trophy for the first time this season.

Following a fresh update though, it seems the boss won’t be going anywhere any time soon.

The Latest: Talks are underway

In an article in the last 48 hours from The Mirror, it’s claimed that talks have ‘already taken place’ with his agent/brother Pere about extending his stay, with any possible deal on the table set to keep him at the Etihad until at least 2025.

The source goes on to state that the Catalan has ‘unfinished business’ in Manchester and is highly likely to continue the journey in English football, regardless of whether City become European champions or not.

The Verdict: Guardiola’s pulling power

It’s recently been rumoured that the current league leaders are close to reaching an agreement for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, and a part of those negotiations surely involved the promise of working under Guardiola.

City have been on the lookout for a new forward ever since the departure of Sergio Aguero, but haven’t yet been able to find a suitable replacement, and there’s a strong possibility that Gabriel Jesus will also be exiting the club at the end of the campaign.

It’s clear that the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager, who was once described as an “incredible” coach by Philipp Lahm, has a massive influence when it comes to players deciding to join the club, and so if it’s officially confirmed that he will be remaining in charge for the next few years, City could attract some of the biggest names in football alongside Haaland and go on to enjoy plenty of long term success in seasons to come.

In other news… Man City reportedly have their sights set on an ‘incredible’ new transfer target.

Man United exploring Kalvin Phillips move

Manchester United have appointed Erik ten Hag as their new manager to join the club this summer, and there is already mounting speculation about players who may join him to be part of the new era at Old Trafford.

What’s the latest?

The Athletic has reported that Man United have begun “exploring” the idea of bringing Kalvin Phillips to the club this summer.

The sports publication tweeted: “MUFC have begun exploring the prospect of £50m move for Kalvin Phillips.”

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-man-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-more-nunez-ten-hag-nkunku-richarlison” title=”Read the latest Man United news!”]

Ten Hag masterclass

If the Red Devils were able to convince Phillips to leave his beloved boyhood club at Leeds United to join Ten Hag this summer in Manchester, it would be an incredible coup for the club and would be the first masterclass in the new manager’s revolution.

The £38k-per-week ace who was hailed “outstanding” by Martin Keown and a “destroyer” by Steve McLaren, has been a force for the Yorkshire club in their push for promotion to the Premier League and last season when they finished 9th in their first season in the top-flight, as well as being a standout performer for England in the Euros last summer.

In midfield for Manchester United, Phillips is the exact profile of player that the team needs to integrate to improve the possession of the ball and control games better in the centre of the pitch, which has been a huge problem for the current team who, for example, lost the ball 167 times against Newcastle United earlier this season.

The 26-year-old Leeds midfielder this season had lost the ball on average just 11.8 times per game, compared to Bruno Fernandes who loses the ball 18.3 times, and Paul Pogba has lost the ball every 12.1 touches, so adding a player like Phillips could boost the ball retention in the team.

With that being said, there is a huge rivalry between Leeds and Manchester United that has existed for decades and with Phillips being a complete product of Leeds United, the golden boy at the club and in the city it would be surprising if he does make the move to Old Trafford, but from a quality perspective, he is exactly what the team needs.
