Allrounder Ben Stokes has been withdrawn from England’s ODI squad for the series in Australia, and batsman Dawid Malan was named his replacement.Stokes is still waiting to hear if he will be charged by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for his role in an incident outside a club in Bristol, and although England had picked him in their ODI squad in the first week of December, the ECB said his selection was dependent on the outcome of the police investigation.”Ben Stokes will not travel with the group of players leaving the UK on 2 January, pending CPS advice on the incident in Bristol in September,” the ECB said. “Should ECB receive formal confirmation that he has either, a) been charged or, b) will face no charges, the ECB Board would convene within 48 hours to make a decision on his availability to represent England at that stage.”The incident – which also involved England batsman Alex Hales, who was not charged by police and therefore cleared for ODI selection – cost Stokes his place in the side for the last two ODIs against West Indies at the end of the English summer, and the ongoing Ashes in Australia. There has been no update on whether Stokes will be charged or not since.Stokes was arrested in September on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm then released on bail. Avon and Somerset police completed their investigation into the incident in November and passed a file on to the CPS for advice on whether he should be charged. The police also confirmed that a 27-year-old man suffered a fractured eye socket in the incident, which occurred outside the Mbargo nightclub in the Clifton area of Bristol in the early hours of the morning after England’s one-day international against West Indies on September 25.Stokes returned to competitive action by playing for Canterbury in the domestic one-day and T20 competitions in New Zealand in December, for which he was granted a no-objection certificate by the ECB.His involvement, or otherwise, with England has overshadowed much of the winter. Having been initially named in the Ashes squad a few days after his arrest, footage was released by a newspaper appearing to show Stokes throwing a series of punches at a man in the street. England subsequently said he would not be considered for selection until investigations were complete. Both Stokes and Hales will have to face an ECB disciplinary hearing, whether or not the police press charges. The ECB’s chief executive, Tom Harrison, recently suggested it could take six months to a year to resolve the situation if Stokes is charged, although he added that the board would not prevent him from playing in competitions such as the IPL in the meantime, while he is out of the England set-up.Without Stokes, England have faced difficulty balancing their Test side and relinquished the Ashes after falling 3-0 behind in Perth – although they did end their run of defeats in Australia by having the better of a drawn Boxing Day Test.Malan has been one of England’s better-performing players during the Ashes, making his maiden Test hundred at the WACA. He has yet to be capped in 50-over cricket but impressed on T20 debut during the summer, when he was Man of the Match against South Africa. His call-up in place of Stokes is expected to be confirmed in the next 24 hours. The ODI series begins in Melbourne on January 14, after which England and Australia will play a T20I tri-series involving New Zealand. England will then embark on their tour of New Zealand, taking in another five ODIs and two Tests.
Leed United are entering the "final stage" in negotiations to bring a player once described as "exceptional" to Elland Road this summer, per journalist Rudy Galetti.
Leeds United transfer news – what is the latest?
It's been a rough few months for the Peacocks recently. While relegation from the Premier League would be enough drama for most clubs, Leeds has had to contend with their drop to the Championship, a prolonged takeover process and a player exodus simultaneously.
The club have seen several first-team players that were unable to keep them up last year leave West Yorkshire over the last few weeks in a bid to find top-flight football elsewhere in Europe or England.
And it looks like another name could soon be added to that list with the news that the 19-year-old Italian international Willy Gnonto has already agreed to a five-year deal with Everton and has since refused to play for the club, per Fabrizio Romano.

That said, it's not all doom and gloom as Daniel Farke's side have welcomed a few new faces to Elland Road so far this summer, with Ethan Ampadu joining from Chelsea in a deal worth £7m, Joe Rodon moving from Tottenham Hotspur on a season-long loan and Kar Darlow moving from Newcastle United in a deal worth £400,000.
Liverpool defender Nat Phillips.
Things could be about to get even better as well, with The Athletic reporting last week that the club were also keen on bringing Liverpool defender Nat Phillips to the club, with Italian journalist Rudy Galetti bringing yet more good news about this deal in particular.
What has Rudy Galetti said about Leeds United and Nat Phillips?
Galetti was confident that the talks between the clubs are positive and "progressing at a good pace" due to Liverpool's willingness to let the player leave this summer.
However, any deal will likely cost The Whites £10m.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said:"After the farewell of Maximilian Wober to Borussia Monchengladbach, Leeds targeted Phillips as a reinforcement as a new centre-back for the season.
"The talks between Leeds and Liverpool are progressing at a good pace and are now into the final stage. They just need to discuss some important details of the proposal on the table, set at around £10m, add-ons included.
"For Liverpool, he's not considered a key player to have in the squad this season, so they are absolutely open to letting him go and there is confidence to close the deal shortly."
How old is Nat Phillips?
Born March 21st, 1997, in Bolton, England, the 26-year-old has struggled for game time on Merseyside but has shown his quality the few time he has been on the pitch and during his loan spells away from the club.
He would represent a brilliant signing for the West Yorkshire side as when he last played in the Championship – for the high-flying Bournemouth – he played an instrumental role in their promotion back to the Premier League.
He joined the side for the second half of the campaign, and once he made his debut, he became a near enough permanent fixture in the Cherries backline.
Across the second half of the season, he started 17 games for the club, averaged 0.7 shots per game, maintained a passing accuracy of 81.9%, won a massive 4.8 aerial duals a game and averaged a seriously impressive match rating of 7.01, per WhoScored.
Whilst he has found game time at Liverpool hard to come by, manager Klopp is a massive fan of the 6 foot 3 titan, waxing lyrical over his ability and character, saying:
"People love him because of his heading, but with his feet, he is unbelievable. He's a late starter, but his development is unbelievable. I would sign him for any club except Liverpool because we have him.
"We cannot keep him forever, that's clear. We needed him, just to be safe, for that half-year. We will see what happens in the window. He was fine doing it because he's a great guy."
He might not be the glamorous signing, but considering his exceptional displays the last time he was in the second tier and the glowing endorsements from Klopp, Leeds and Farke should be doing all they can to get him to Elland Road this summer.
Arsenal remain keen on signing a new midfield maestro, to compound their already bolstered engine room with one crowning jewel…
Is Douglas Luiz leaving Aston Villa?
Whilst Declan Rice will likely remain the biggest deal that Gunners boss Mikel Arteta accomplishes this summer, that's not to suggest that others could not prove as imperative on the pitch.
Kai Havertz showcased his usefulness in their Community Shield win, as he occupied space up front in Gabriel Jesus' absence, whilst Jurrien Timber was economical as an inverted left-back.

However, all of these stars could be usurped should Football Insider's claims be true, as they suggest that Aston Villa are already working on a replacement for Douglas Luiz.
It is noted that the Midlands outfit have begun this process given the fact that both north London sides are reportedly keen on signing the player, who FootballTransfers value at €39.8m (£34m).
How good is Douglas Luiz?
The offensive attributes of the Brazilian in question could provide some much-needed firepower into Arteta's midfield for the coming campaign, to partner his England international who starred most recently as a defensive asset for West Ham United.
Maintaining a 7.19 average rating in the Premier League, the 24-year-old also recorded an 88% pass accuracy and six goal contributions alongside one key pass, 1.7 interceptions and 2.1 tackles per game, via Sofascore.
Only Thomas Partey could equal his tackling proficiency within Arsenal's squad.
To now pair the metronomic, calming yet combative presence with the all-action style of Luiz, and the two could form an instant partnership that allows the two to both push forward at opportune moments, safe in the knowledge that the other will be there to cover.
The 25-year-old's average rating during that term sat at 7.10, with his goal contributions rising to 12, pass accuracy dropping to 86%, whilst also managing 1.2 key passes, 1.1 interceptions and two tackles per game, via Sofascore.
declan-rice
It is clear that the former Manchester City man has that preference towards attacking, but that does not see him shirk his defensive responsibilities – as such, he was lauded by writer Martin Laurence, who suggested he had a truly bright future:
"Realise he conceded the pen (not a foul in my opinion) but Douglas Luiz is just outstanding. He's 22! Will play for one of the biggest clubs in Europe before long. Enjoy him while we can".
To make that move to the Emirates could see him realise his potential even sooner than expected, with all the aforementioned figures certain to skyrocket when surrounded by the endless improved quality on display within their title-chasing outfit.
One of the big issues Arteta faced last season was a lack of depth following poor form or injuries, and with Granit Xhaka now gone, Rice hardly profiles well to offer the goals that would be missed with the Swiss star's absence.
Luiz would not only offer this but also incomparable reliability, given he featured in 40 games across all competitions last campaign.
Should he and Rice hit the ground running as their respective play styles suggest they would, then it could truly provide a frightening foundation for the rest of the Premier League to try and compete with their energy, defensive work rate, creativity and ability to score.
Aravinda de Silva, Roshan Mahanama, Brendon Kuruppu, Graeme Labrooy, perhaps even Mahela Jayawardene – these are the names Sri Lanka Cricket is attempting to align itself with as the board looks to arrest the decline of the national team.Even more crucially for SLC, getting former players with good reputations on board may also help turn around its ailing public reputation. The board is now not only widely believed to be detrimental to the development of cricket, it is also seen as one of the most toxic governing bodies in the country.Whether these former players are willing to become associated with SLC given its present state remains to be seen. But as far as some board officials are concerned, they have several vacancies to fill, and would like for these men to be installed in those positions. De Silva, for example, would return to his role as cricket advisor, some board officials hope. They would also like Mahanama, Kuruppu and Labrooy to become selectors, to replace the Sanath Jayasuriya-led committee that resigned earlier in the month. Ideally Jayawardene might also come in as a consultant. And the only reason officials have not set their sights on Kumar Sangakkara is because he is still playing cricket overseas.Of these ex-players, Labrooy and Kuruppu have confirmed that SLC has approached them, while Mahanama has said he has not been approached so far. Labrooy is currently an ICC match referee. There is some irony in the board gunning for the aid of these former players at this juncture, because some of them are the same men it has spent the last 18 months alienating. Kuruppu was part of the selection committee that was sacked by Thilanga Sumathipala and the board just 48 hours from the team’s scheduled departure from the 2016 World T20, for example. Jayawardene’s plan to take cricket into the provinces was scrapped and criticised, and he was ousted from his position in the SLC cricket committee. De Silva had held the cricket advisor post for about 12 months, but then quit earlier this year, due to strong differences with SLC.Two developments have precipitated this drastic change of approach. In the wake of the 0-9 drubbing by India, and indeed the unprecedented losses to Bangladesh and Zimbabwe earlier this year, members of SLC’s executive committee have become convinced that the board’s existing trajectory was untenable. Those defeats have also substantially weakened Thilanga Sumathipala’s political grip within the organisation, with pressure now having been placed on him from higher political offices in the country.Sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekara has repeatedly said that he would not dissolve an elected board to appoint an interim committee, so the Sumathipala presidency is safe for now – at least until the board elections early next year (they could be brought forward to December). However, other board officials have now taken strong issue with the manner in which Sumathipala has conducted business at SLC, particularly his alleged meddling with team selection and direct influence over cricket matters. These agitating officials claim that should any of the former players they are trying to woo take up positions at the board, those new appointments should “have a free hand”, in contrast to what had previously been the case. It is perhaps relevant that Graham Ford resigned in June exactly because he felt his role was repeatedly encroached upon. The sports minister is also hoping to get many of these former players together for a brainstorming session on how SLC might turn cricket around, over the next week or so.Essentially, amid a significant decline in influence for Sumathipala, there is now substantial will within SLC to change tack. Early indications from the former players they are chasing, however, is that they would rather await fundamental change in SLC – either the election or the appointment of a fresh board – before they become involved.
The BBL and WBBL seasons will expand by a week next summer, with the tournament finals scheduled for February 4. The expansion means that the semi-finals and final for both competitions will be played in the first week of the school year, outside the school-holiday period that has been such a successful window for the T20 tournament. The semi-finals are locked in for February 1 and 2, a Thursday and Friday, with the deciders to be played on the Sunday. Cricket Australia had announced in January that eight additional BBL matches would be fixtured for next season, though at the time the BBL chief, Anthony Everard, said CA believed they “could fit the extra games within the existing window if we wanted to”.The increase means one extra home game per BBL team, with the intention of taking matches to new markets. Launceston will host a WBBL and BBL double-header on December 30, when the Hobart Hurricanes play the Sydney Thunder, while other new venues are yet to be announced.”Both the BBL and WBBL are firm family favourites during the summer school holidays, and with even more matches we hope fans will continue to vote with their feet, support their club, and help us surpass last year’s attendance, which exceeded 1 million for the second consecutive season,” Everard said.”The eight additional BBL matches for this season have been scheduled to complement the existing regular season fixture, take the BBL and WBBL to more locations, and encourage more people to give cricket a go.”The opportunity to take matches to markets such as Launceston is particularly exciting as it represents the growing popularity of the Big Bash nationwide, and we are hopeful of extending the BBL’s footprint even further this season in partnership with the Thunder, Strikers and Renegades, who remain in discussions to take matches to new markets.”
Mickey Arthur has insisted both he and chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq have the same expectations over player fitness after Umar Akmal was axed from the Champions Trophy squad a week before the tournament.
Andrew McGlashan in Cardiff10-Jun-2017Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur has insisted both he and chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq have the same expectations over player fitness after Umar Akmal was axed from the Champions Trophy squad a week before the tournament.Akmal had been omitted from the West Indies tour when he was the one player from a group of 31 who failed to meet fitness standards. He then made it into the final 15-man squad for the Champions Trophy at the last minute after clearing a fitness test supervised by Inzamam at the National Cricket Academy. However, shortly after arriving in England, he failed two further tests overseen by Arthur and was dispatched back to Pakistan.Arthur, addressing the issue for the first time in the tournament, said there was no question of any part of the Pakistan management accepting different standards of fitness.”Inzi and myself are on exactly the same page,” he said in Cardiff ahead of Pakistan’s decisive group match against Sri Lanka. “In terms of that test, I’m not sure how that happened. We were always going to test the guys here so every guy who is now here is fine. Inzi has bought into exactly what we want to do so there’s no disconnect between us at all, we are on the same page.”Arthur struck an exasperated tone when talking specifically of Akmal, whose ODI career has stalled on 116 matches since the tour of Australia. “It was incredibly disappointing with Umar Akmal because he didn’t tour West Indies for the same reason. I would have thought in that month that he would have done something.”He’s just got to get out there and do it. All the players know what the standards are and they need to do it because it’s a culture we are trying to develop. It doesn’t happen overnight. The standards are going to go up and up. There has to be that culture of hard work, commitment and dedication because that shows us players really want to play.”At the time of Akmal being removed from the squad, Inzamam said: “We had a set a fitness standard which isn’t really a tough one to start with. But he still didn’t meet the average level. So whoever the player is, whatever his performance is like, we could not select him. Akmal being dropped is a reprimand and it’s a major blow for any player. He is a good player, we needed him, but we had to take a decision.”Asked about the fitness levels on show at the Champions Trophy, Arthur said: “It’s one the things we work tirelessly on and we are going in the right direction.”
Chelsea has agreed a €15million (£12.95m) fee with Brazilian side Santos for 18-year-old winger Angelo Gabriel according to a number of reports.
Speaking on talkSPORT, South American expert Tim Vickery revealed that the man management of Mauricio Pochettino will be key in getting the youngster's career back on track after a disappointing campaign.
What is the latest news regarding Angelo to Chelsea?
According to multiple reports, The Blues have agreed a fee with Santos to sign the winger, who is set to sign a contract at the club until 2028.
The Brazilian youth internationals contract at Santos contained a € 60m release clause, but the Brasileiro Serie A side have agreed to sell for €15m.

Barcelona held preferential rights to match any offer received for the 18-year-old, a clause they've held for over a year, however, it appears the Spanish champions have decided against matching the offer from the London side.
Chelsea plan to send the inside forward out on loan to Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, who finished 15th in Ligue 1 last season, which is the club that current Blues owner Todd Boehly recently purchased for £65m.
Angelo Gabriel is the second player to head to Stamford Bridge from Brazilian football this year, after Andrey Santos joined from Vasco de Gama in January.
What did Tim Vickery say about Angelo?
Tim Vickery revealed that Chelsea and manager Pochettino have a major part to play in helping get Angelo's career back on track after it stalled a bit this season.
Speaking on TalkSPORT, Vickery said: "I mean this year Santos are dreadful. They're really not playing well, and he's lost his place in the starting lineup, so he's on the bench, coming off the bench, so his career is stalled a little bit. He has immense promise, Barcelona had the option on him and Barcelona had to wave that option before Chelsea were free to sign him.
His career has stalled a little bit and this is up to the man management at Chelsea with Pochettino and whatever to get him back on track because he's been marked out as an extraordinary talent for a long time but we all know there's a huge difference that road between promise and reality. It's a long unwinding one and a lot of things can happen so I think because too much pressure has been forced on him too early, he stalled a little bit and Chelsea will have to work hard with the human being in order to get the best out of the player."
Is Angelo Gabriel a good signing for Chelsea?
Angelo has made 129 appearances across his career and has recorded 15 goals and assists. This previous campaign was a disappointing one for the 18-year-old, with him only managing two goals and one assist across 32 games, with a number of appearances coming off the bench as the winger was dropped for an extended spell.
Despite this, the Brazilian has received plenty of praise throughout his career and has been compared to the likes of Paris Saint Germain winger Neymar and Real Madrid winger Rodrygo in the past due to his skills and his similar career start.
His former coach Ariel Holan told SporTV: "I see a lot of potential in Angelo. He is a boy who likes to go for the goal. I really like Brazilian football, and Angelo plays Brazilian football. This essence of dribbling, of taking on the opponent, is very important.
He has a huge future. By working hard, he will be able to play not only at Santos, but I believe that, in the future, he will be able to play in major leagues around the world."
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino.
It's clear to see Chelsea have a real wonderkid on their hands, who could explode if Pochettino is able to manage him correctly.
