Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante makes admission on PSG that might sting them

Paris Saint-Germain are a club that are still trying to prove themselves to the world.

And despite having a total monopoly over Ligue 1 back in France, the Saints haven’t really been firing on all cylinders in Europe, specifically in the Champions League.

Even though they have eight French crowns under their belts already, their cabinet still doesn’t have a single European trophy apart from the one Cup Winners Cup from 1995/96.

But despite all of that and their club still being somewhat fresh in the conversation of the biggest teams on the planet, they still managed to attract superstars like Neymar and Kylian Mbappe to their squad.

However, N’Golo Kante recently spoke to French television channel Canal Plus (as quoted by Metro) and revealed that he turned Paris Saint-Germain down in the past due to “sporting reasons”.

He went on to say that he likes the current project at Chelsea and that’s one of the reasons he decided to stay but it could also indicate that, despite all the money and the glamour, PSG are still lacking the type of pulling power you typically associate with an elite club.

With Neymar Junior, arguably their biggest star alongside the aforementioned Mbappe, pushing for a move away from the French capital in a soap opera that was active throughout the whole summer, there just might be something behind Kante’s words after all.

A similar thing happened with Marco Verratti, a midfielder who was also pretty close to leaving the club a couple of years back, when he received a more tempting offer from Barcelona, but he ended up staying in Paris.

Maybe the biggest statement the French giants can actually make is somehow making sure Mbappe stays put and doesn’t leave in the not so distant future, but even that looks unlikely with Real Madrid constantly on the prowl.

So despite having those superstars now and their links with great players such as Kante, it still feels like they still have trouble attracting or simply keeping them in their squad.

And that in itself could be a sign they are not yet at the level they would probably want to be.

Meanwhile, Graham Roberts has suggested a bold idea to Spurs that involves two big stars and the fans seem to be divided on the matter.

West Ham fans aren’t confident of beating Spurs after Jose Mourinho’s appointment

Jose Mourinho has been appointed as Tottenham Hotspur manager, with his deal running until the end of the 2022/23 campaign, as reported by their official website.

While he will be looking to make a change over an extended period of time, it is his first fixture in charge at Spurs that many are focusing on.

West Ham United haven’t won any of their last seven games in all competitions, so East London wasn’t exactly brimming with confidence ahead of the derby.

It seems as though the appointment of the Portuguese tactician has only worsened the feeling among Hammers fans:

Spurs are on a run of five Premier League games without a win, but the general consensus seems to be that they will be lifted by the Special One’s arrival.

That, mixed with the current goalkeeper situation, means that there is a definite pessimism among sections of the club’s supporters.

A selection of Twitter reaction to the managerial change, including posts from concerned West Ham fans, can be seen below:

West Ham fans slam Roberto for recent struggles

Well, it would be fair to say that the West Ham United fans are not overly pleased with their Spanish goalkeeper Roberto. The 33-year-old joined the Hammers on a free transfer over the summer after leaving Espanyol, where he had spent three years.Lukasz Fabianski is currently on the sidelines with a hip injury, meaning that Roberto is the number one for the moment. The Spaniard was again between the sticks for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Burnley, and after failing to cover himself in glory for the home side’s second of the match, he dropped a real clanger for the third.Indeed, Roberto punched the ball into the back of his own net in the 54th minute, which pretty much decided the match as a contest.West Ham are on a rotten run of form at the moment having failed to pick up all three points in the Premier League since overcoming Manchester United on September 22.

And the recent form of Roberto is not helping their mood, with some claiming that they do not want the stopper to ever represent the club again.

Leicester fans left unimpressed with Demarai Gray against Burton

Not quite as routine as last Friday night was it?

Despite taking a 2-0 lead inside 20 minutes against Burton Albion, Leicester City were made to huff and puff against the Brewers, only sealing victory in the last minute when a goal from James Maddison wrapped up proceedings.

However it was the man who set up Maddison for his ‘icing on the cake’ goal that seemed to be getting quite a lot of stick from the Foxes faithful, and that was Demarai Gray.

The statistics from last night would certainly back up the fans on this one, as he had a worse pass completion percentage than all bar one of the Leicester centre-backs.

As well as that, he only managed two successful dribbles compared to Marc Albrighton on the opposing flank who managed to achieve eight (all via WhoScored).

And they were not scared in voicing their opinions about the 23-year-old, with some rather harsh comments indeed.

In fairness, he has only started one league game this season, so that should be a decent indicator that he isn’t good enough to be in the first team, that’s why he was playing against Burton last night.

Man Utd target James Maddison can take them to the next level, says Gary Pallister

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

As quoted by The Manchester Evening News, Gary Pallister has revealed James Maddison would be able to take Manchester United to the “next level”.

What did he say?

The England U21 international enjoyed a fine debut campaign in the Premier League last season after joining Leicester from Norwich last summer. The 22-year-old scored seven goals and seven assists in 36 games in the top-flight, and his displays have reportedly attracted the interest of United.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested the Red Devils are considering making a swoop for the attacking midfielder next summer as they look to reshape their squad. Now, Pallister has thrown his backing behind a potential move, and revealed he was particularly impressed with his performance against Tottenham last weekend.

He said: “There was a lot of talk about him in the press. He stood out in the game against Tottenham, he’s got a lot of quality and energy – and he obviously scored the winner. He’s the type of player who can take Man United to the next level. However, Ole needs to try his best for now to squeeze the best out of the squad he has for the next few months.”

Goals

Amidst all the talk of United’s questionable decision to let both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez leave this summer, the Red Devils have an equally pressing problem when it comes to goals from the midfield areas. Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Angel Gomes – all of whom have played in the number ten role for United this season – have yet to score. A swoop for Maddison would go a long way to solving that.

The Foxes man has been used in a variety of roles this season, but the one time he was deployed in the attacking midfield position, he scored – adding to his seven strikes in the Premier League last season. Having players from deep who can find the back of the net can dramatically ease the burden and pressure on those at the top of the attack. United desperately need someone like that right now.

Liverpool fans stunned by Trent Alexander-Arnold’s England snub

One of the Premier League’s most dangerous full-backs, Trent Alexander-Arnold has enjoyed a meteoric rise since making his debut for Liverpool.Last season, the 21-year-old bagged an incredible 16 assists in 40 games across all competitions, and played a key role in the Reds’ Champions League triumph.Despite his tender age, the right-back has become a permanent fixture in the England set-up, and has picked up seven senior caps. After being named in the latest squad by Gareth Southgate, Alexander-Arnold would no doubt have been hoping to play against the Czech Republic on Friday night. However, the Three Lions boss opted for Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier instead, and the side slipped to a shock 2-1 defeat. The former Spurs man hardly covered himself in glory, losing possession 11 times over the course of the game and earning himself a measly 6.4 match rating as per SofaScore.Watch Liverpool Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

After the game, Liverpool fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the decision to leave Alexander-Arnold out.

Many supporters of the Anfield side expressed their shock and dismay, and insisted they couldn’t believe Southgate appeared to favour Trippier.

Some even suggested the England boss should lose his job because of it.

Everton fans slam Gylfi Sigurdsson’s performance in surprise loss

[ad_pod ]

A number of Everton fans took to social media on Saturday to slam the performance of Gylfi Sigurdsson in the shock 2-0 home defeat to Sheffield United.

The 30-year-old scored 13 Premier League goals for the Toffees during the 2018/19 campaign, but the Iceland international is yet to get off the mark this term.

And his performance in the loss to Sheffield United went down terribly with the Everton fans, who are seemingly losing their patience.

According to WhoScored, Sigurdsson actually had a pass success rate of 97% at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.

The attacker only managed one shot off target during a disappointing performance though, and it was another poor result for the Merseyside giants.

Liverpool fans eye seventh CL title as Napoli defeat evokes memories of last season

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool suffered their first defeat since the Community Shield shoot-out on Tuesday as Napoli ran out 2-0 winners in their Champions League opener, but fans aren’t too concerned.

The Reds visited the San Paolo in last year’s group stage and lost the match in similar fashion, with a late goal, but ended the campaign by winning their sixth Champions League title. That fact hasn’t been lost on some of the supporters.

Another who recognised the trend is Carlo Ancelotti, who reportedly said to Jurgen Klopp: “Don’t you worry, if you lose in Naples, then you end up winning the Champions League.”

In general, fans are choosing to be optimistic about their chances despite a lacklustre display, although one fan expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance, which saw them manage only four shots on target.

Given the Reds also lost to PSG and Red Star Belgrade in last year’s group stage and still made it through, it is unlikely this result will trouble fans too much, particularly as they face Red Bull Salzburg next, which is a much more comfortable game on paper despite the Austrian outfit’s 6-2 win on matchday one.

Fans may have been overjoyed by the sixth Champions League win, but that hasn’t prevented them from thinking of a seventh, as shown in the reactions below.

Aston Villa fans react to speculation surrounding January transfer plans

[ad_pod ]

According to Football Insider, Aston Villa have a budget of £20m+ to sign a new centre-forward during the January transfer window.

Following last week’s goalless draw with West Ham United at Villa Park, a number of the club’s fans admitted that they were concerned about a lack of goals in the team.

According to Football Insider, despite spending heavily during the summer transfer window, last season’s Championship playoff winners are ready to pay more than £20m to sign a new striker at the start of 2020.

Heading into Sunday’s clash with Arsenal, Villa had only managed four goals in five games at the start of the 2019/20 Premier League campaign.

A number of the club’s fans have been on social media offering their views on the transfer claim – and it would be fair to say that there are a lot of mixed opinions on the subject.

Man United fans praise Raheem Sterling’s latest England display

[ad_pod ]

Raheem Sterling continued his incredible start to the 2019/20 campaign with a fine performance in England’s 5-3 win over Kosovo on Tuesday night.

The 24-year-old arrived on England duty having scored six times in five appearances for Manchester City at the start of the new season.

Sterling scored once and provided another as Gareth Southgate’s side recorded a 4-0 win over Bulgaria on Saturday night.

The attacker then scored once and registered two assists in the 5-3 win over Kosovo.

According to WhoScored, Sterling completed nine successful dribbles whilst he also managed five shots during a fine performance at Southampton’s home ground.
