Everton must ensure that they can get a deal over the line for the attacker as he could be “exceptional” for Rafa Benitez in the Premier League.

This suggests that he could come in and add to Benitez’s options in the forward line by offering a new threat alongside Townsend and the likes of Demarai Gray and Alex Iwobi.

Fortaleza president Marcelo Paz was previously effusive in his praise of the wide man, saying:

“He is a fantastic, exceptional, very talented player, with great dribbling skills. Of course, he will not be (the second coming of) Ronaldo, because he is Il Fenomeno and there is only one. But I assure you that he is a special player, he has all the qualities to become among the best in the world. And besides being strong he is a serious guy.”

These comments suggest that he has the potential to progress further and improve. At the age of 25, he still has plenty of time on his side and he could arrive at Everton with both the quality to make an immediate impact and the scope to increase his value over time and develop into a top player on the pitch for Benitez.

Mohammad Sami’s international career has been revived after he was added to Pakistan’s 16-man Test squad against Australia following the team management’s request for an extra fast bowler. According to the Pakistan Cricket Board, Sami was recalled after the need for additional support to a fast-bowling contingent comprising Umar Gul, Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Aamer and Abdur Rauf was raised.Gul, Asif and Aamer played in all three matches of the tied Test series and have little time off ahead of the series in Australia, which begins with a three-day tour match against Hobart from December 19. A major boost has emerged on Rangers centre-back Leon Balogun, regarding when he will return to fitness at Ibrox.

Gers boss Gio van Bronckhorst has delivered an update on the defender by revealing when he will be back in training for the club.

He told the Scottish Sun: “Leon went to Germany for a couple of days but is back now. So hopefully this week he will start training again.”

He was in fine form under Steven Gerrard’s management, averaging an excellent SofaScore rating of 7.05 in the Scottish Premiership across 11 matches. The centre-back has won 64% of his duels in the campaign so far, making an impressive 3.2 tackles and interceptions per game in the league.

Last season, he averaged a score of 7.13 as he won 61% of his duels and made 2.6 tackles and interceptions per game for Rangers. This shows that he has maintained a consistently high level, both in terms of his average performances and his defensive strength, since the start of the 2020/21 campaign. He has shown that he has the quality to be a top player in the Premiership, which is why fans will be delighted by his return to training this week.

It will also come as a major boost to van Bronckhorst as it arms him with another excellent player to call upon at the back. His displays over the past 18 months show how good he can be for the club and that is why his return will benefit the Dutch head coach, who could now afford to hand Calvin Bassey or Connor Goldson a rest at the heart of the defence.

The only piece of news that Gers fans may not be best pleased with is the 46-year-old’s update on Helander. He appears set to come back into the fold towards the end of January or later, which means that it could be a while before he is seen out on the pitch again.

The first day of Iain O’Brien’s last Test for New Zealand didn’t begin well. Before heading to McLean Park for the series decider, he received “pretty average news” about his UK visa and, after getting there, Daniel Vettori lost the toss and New Zealand had to bowl when they would have preferred to bat. From there on, though, O’Brien’s day got remarkably better.”A few things didn’t go my way this morning before we left the hotel. Managed to push them aside and that might have helped me push a bit harder in the middle. You use what you can to motivate you,” O’Brien said. “I got some pretty average news this morning but we’ll work through that. It may end up delaying my departure by possibly months. So it’s another hurdle to get over.”What O’Brien did, though, was give Pakistan’s batsmen several hurdles to clear and four of them failed. He bowled a hostile, accurate spell in the first session, clocking over 140 kmph consistently, restricting the batsmen with his discipline before delivering the knock-out blow with something extra. At one stage O’Brien’s figures were 4.2-4-3-3. His first wicket, in his first over, was that of Faisal Iqbal and his next three – Mohammad Yousuf, Umar Akmal and Misbah-ul-Haq – were all dismissed for zero.Pakistan had slumped dramatically from 39 for 1 to 51 for 5 and were eventually dismissed for 223, a “great result for us bowlers” according to O’Brien. “I think that spell I bowled at the Basin last week, after we were knocked over for 99, was probably up there in quality also,” he said. “But yes, to bowl first on a pretty good deck, to bowl a few maidens and take a couple wickets, it was a great start to what hopefully will be a pretty cool Test.”O’Brien said that the fact that this was his last Test was “part of the thoughts” but was pleased that it spurred him on to wrecking Pakistan’s innings. “To get that first ball out of the way … it’s always the second one for me that’s the messy one, so it was basically ‘get the second ball out of the way’ and keep going.”He didn’t get a five-for, though, and finished with figures of 4 for 32 as Daryl Tuffey mopped up the last four wickets. O’Brien said, with some irony, that it was perhaps fitting that he didn’t take a fairytale five-wicket haul in his last Test given his valuable, yet unglamorous, role in the New Zealand attack, where he often shoulders the burden of bowling into strong winds.”I was pretty keen to get five, and make that a part of my last Test. But it was probably fitting that I didn’t as well because I haven’t had too many fives. So it’s probably best that I didn’t, you know, in terms of the kind of player and the role that I’ve played.”O’Brien had announced his retirement from international cricket during the Wellington Test, which Pakistan won to level the series 1-1. He said the decision was because he wanted to move to the UK to be with his wife and play for Middlesex.

وأكمل: “من الوارد أن نخوض بعض المباريات في دوري الموسم المُقبل بالثنائي أحمد ياسر ريان وجون إيبوكا معًا”.

وعن استبعاد محمد عواد حارس الزمالك من قائمة منتخب مصر، أوضح: “من حق عواد أن يغضب بسبب استبعاده من قائمة المنتخب، ولكن ليس من حقه التعليق على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي ويتحدث عن الظُلم، لأن كل مدير فني له وجهة نظره وفقًا لاحتياجاته”.
