Cricket South Africa (CSA) have cancelled Herschelle Gibbs’ national contract “by mutual agreement”, the association announced on Friday. Gibbs was one of 23 players contracted to CSA for one-year ending in April 2011.”He violated his contract on various grounds,” a source with knowledge of the decision told ESPNcricinfo. “Most employment contracts have a clause that the employee may not criticise the employer and there are many occasions where he did that.”However, Gibbs’ lawyer, Peter Whelan, suggested that the decision was not by mutual consent, saying he was still waiting “for CSA’s lawyer to call me back so we can have a discussion”.Gibbs released a tell-all autobiography, , on November 1, which sold out its first print run of 15,000 copies in five days. His book disclosed details of sexual debauchery, particularly on the tour to Australia in 1997-98, allegations that the team was run by a clique of senior players that included Graeme Smith, Mark Boucher, Jacques Kallis and AB de Villiers and that former national coach Mickey Arthur was controlled by this inner circle.CSA asked their legal counsel to look into the allegations made in the book shortly after its release. They refused to comment at the time whether they thought Gibbs had breached his contract. Interest in Leeds United winger Raphinha is increasing ahead of the summer transfer window.

That’s according to a report by Spanish publication Sport, who claim that West Ham United have now made a second approach to Leeds concerning a deal for the 25-year-old forward, who has also been heavily linked with a summer switch to Barcelona.

Supporters would be livid

Apoiado por 42.830 torcedores que estabeleceram o novo recorde de público do campeonato, o Tricolor bateu o Corinthians, por 1 a 0, e agora joga por um empate, na próxima quarta-feira, em Itaquera, para voltar a decidir o estadual após 15 anos sem participar de uma final (em 2005 o clube foi campeão, mas o torneio era disputado em pontos corridos). A última final paulista do São Paulo, perdida para o mesmo Corinthians, foi disputada em 2003.

Escalado com três volantes, o time do uruguaio Diego Aguirre demonstrou muita garra durante os 90 minutos da partida. A atuação do Tricolor não foi brilhante, mas foi suficiente para sair com a vantagem no Majestoso.
Desfalcado de Rodriguinho, que sentiu dores durante o aquecimento, o Corinthians não conseguiu furar a retranca são-paulina no segundo tempo e agora, mais uma vez, precisa correr atrás do resultado para avançar de fase no Paulistão.

Confusão
Na comemoração do primeiro gol do São Paulo, o meio-campista Nenê correu em direção ao banco de reservas do Corinthians. A provocação deu o que falar porque os corintianos não gostaram do gesto do são-paulino e foram para cima do camisa 7 do Tricolor, que acabou sendo penalizado com o cartão amarelo por conta de seu gesto.

Jogo de seis volantes
No aspecto técnico, o Majestoso não agradou a quase ninguém. Ambas as equipes entraram em campo escaladas com três volantes, cada, e o jogo ficou muito truncado no meio de campo e sem criatividade dos dois lados. Os rivais optaram pela força física e o clássico virou uma batalha dentro de campo. Melhor para o São Paulo que saiu vitorioso.

Recorde de público
A torcida do São Paulo registrou o maior público do Campeonato Paulista. Ao todo, 42.830 tricolores pagaram o ingressos para assistirem a vitória de sua equipe diante do Corinthians. O recorde anterior pertencia ao próprio Alvinegro, que havia colocado 42.178 pessoas no clássico contra o Palmeiras, disputado no dia 24 de fevereiro, na Arena Corinthians.

The president of Cricket Canada, Ranjit Saini, has asked the ICC to step in and resolve the delay in granting India visas to three players of Pakistani origin in their World Cup squad. The team left for Dubai for a 10-day training camp ahead of the tournament, but vice-captain Rizwan Cheema, Khurram Chohan and Hamza Tariq have still not received permission to travel to India.”We seek your kind help and attention to this matter in assisting our players to obtain their visa in Dubai, Dhaka or Colombo,” Saini wrote in a letter to ICC president Sharad Pawar. “We also do hope that the ICC has contingency plans to ensure that the matches are played elsewhere if the visa will not be processed on time or rejected all together.”Canada made a pre-World Cup preparatory visit to India in November and the visas were applied for before that. While the rest of the team had no trouble, the three Pakistan-born players were ruled out of the trip, forcing the team to go ahead without them. “We couldn’t take these players to India and as a result our training plans have suffered,” Saini told the Pakistan’s earlier this month. “[It’s] a source of distraction and is hurting team morale in general.”Canada will play practice matches against Ireland and Afghanistan in Dubai before heading to Bangladesh for their two official warm-up games against Bangladesh and England. They will face Sri Lanka in their opening game of the tournament on February 20 and their first game in India is scheduled for February 28 against Zimbabwe. While the ICC already assured Canada that the visa’s will be granted, the association said in a statement on its website that the current situation left it in an awkward position.
