Tottenham Insider: Yaya Toure may make Spurs role official

Tottenham may soon announce an official role for Yaya Toure after he was once again spotted at a Spurs U23s game, according to club insider John Wenham (via Football Insider).

The Lowdown: Toure’s coaching experience

In December last year, Sky Sports reported that former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure was gaining coaching experience on an informal basis by working alongside Spurs staff Dean Rastrick and Chris Powell.

After going on trial with Chinese side QD Huanghai, the 38-year-old retired from the game at the beginning of 2020, following a disappointing move to Olympiacos.

During 2020, the Ivorian began his coaching experience with stints at Olimpik Donetsk in Ukraine and Akhmat Grozny in Russia. However, he has since moved backed to London, where he has started to work with Tottenham.

The Latest: Toure spotted at Hotspur Way

Antonio Conte currently has Cristian Stellini, Gianluca Conte, Costantino Coratti, Gian Piero Ventrone, Stefano Bruno and Ryan Mason on his coaching team, while Wayne Burnett looks over the youth team.

Speaking to Football Insider, Wenham revealed that he had spotted Toure watching Tottenham’s U23s side playing against Crystal Palace U23s, pondering whether he will soon become an official member of Conte’s team.

“I was at the Tottenham Under 23s game against Crystal Palace at Hotspur Way last week,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“There were quite a few noteworthy people there actually. I spotted Yaya Toure.

“He’s still here, in a full training kit as well. There has been no official announcement from the club regarding any position for him.

“He’s obviously decided to stay on at the club after his two-week trial period.

“It was good to see him speaking to some of the players before and after the game.

“We’ll have to keep an eye out to see if the club announces an official role for him soon.”

The Verdict: Positive appointment

Appointing a Premier League legend to the coaching staff will only be beneficial to the youngsters at the club. Toure will garner immense respect given his wealth of experience, having won three Premier League titles in eight seasons with Man City, and this will go on to motivate those players looking to break into the first-team.

The Daily Mail have reported that the former Barcelona man is working towards his A License, and so he will not be involved with the first team. However, this does not rule out the possibility of a senior role at the club in the future, perhaps developing his techniques first with the youngsters.

Italy, Isle of Man make it two in two

Adam McAuley was run out for 25 after laying the foundation for Isle of Man’s strong score•ICC/Cricket Europe

Hosts Isle of Man registered their second win in as many games, with an authoritative 93-run win against Switzerland in Castletown. Openers Adam McAuley and Carl Wagstaffe were once again the architects for a good score, with a stand of 58 before the former was run out. Midhun Sandhya struck thrice in the middle overs, but had little impact on Ryan Burns who smashed 81 off 68 balls to take his side to 204 in the 40 overs. Captain Daniel Hawke then scuppered Switzerland’s hopes with a stifling spell of 3 for 9 in six overs. Harry Vines struck 41 as the innings meandered to 111 for 9.Italy’s bowlers set up an easy 60-run win against France in Castletown to take their side to the top of their group. Roshendra Abeywickrama kick-started Italy’s innings with 43 off 28 balls, but the rest of his side’s batsmen could not sustain the effort. Thomas Liddiard picked 4 for 46 in seven overs as Italy were bowled out for 155. Harpreet Singh then turned the tables on France with an incisive spell where he picked 4 for 15. France’s final score of 95 was an improvement of sorts, given they were 29 for 6 at one stage.Belgium brushed aside Greece’s challenge in quick time, racing to an eight-wicket win in a game that lasted under 40 overs in Tromode. Naman Parikh scythed through the Greek batting line-up with a six-wicket haul. Fraser McRae helped himself to three wickets as well, as Greece were shot out for 66. Things could have been much worse if not for Ioannis Vasilas and Georgio Kantas who scored 19 apiece. McRae followed it up with an unbeaten 45 as Belgium crossed the line in 16.1 overs.Germany ran Austria close in Crosby before losing by six runs in a tight encounter. Ciju Puthupally scored a patient 63 off 101 balls with only two boundaries as Austria laboured to 157 in their 40 overs. Jaskaran Singh and Tushar Marwaha picked three wickets each. Germany’s chase followed a similar template with opener Jaskaran scoring 55 off 83 balls, but without adequate support. Christoph Moslinger, Puthupally and Sohaib Farooq grabbed two wickets each as Germany lost one wicket too many, the last man departing off the penultimate ball with seven runs still required.

A nerveless six and nervy behind the sticks

World’s worst wicketkeeper? Kamran Akmal resumed his bid for the title with a woeful day behind the stumps•Getty Images

Innings of the day
With a sashay down the track and a full swing of the bat, Eoin Morgan deposited Shoaib Malik back over his head for six to power along to his maiden Test century, and dismiss any doubts about his aptitude for first-class cricket. The nervelessness of his performance belied the struggle in which it began, with three wickets tumbling either side of lunch to leave England awkwardly placed at 118 for 4. But with Paul Collingwood steadfast alongside him, Morgan set his team’s sights on domination. Morgan may already be England’s one-day finisher, but in Test cricket he is only just getting started.Non-controversy of the day
England, Pakistan, umpiring. Over the years, that potent trio of ingredients have led to all manner of spectacular conflagrations, from Mike Gatting’s finger-jabbing in Faisalabad to the Darrell Hair stand-off at The Oval. And with that in mind, the decision to incorporate UDRS into this series was taken with some trepidation, given all the teething problems that it has encountered in recent months. But contrary to all expectations, the first review went without a glitch. Jonathan Trott sought a second opinion after being adjudged lbw by Asoka de Silva, but it was immediately clear he had got an inside-edge. The replay was shown on the big screen as well, so the crowd and the players had no doubt about the reasons for the reversal, and everyone got on with the game.Struggle of the day
Kevin Pietersen has effectively been on a mid-summer sabbatical, having been rested for the Bangladesh ODIs and snubbed by his soon-to-be-former county Hampshire. And his rustiness showed in a very sketchy return to the crease, which began with his habitual desperation to get off the mark (nine balls elapsed before a nudge to short midwicket), and continued through two unsuccessful attempts from Pakistan to have not-out decisions overturned. But eventually it was left to Mohammad Asif to do what he does best. A good-length delivery, a hint of nip off the seam, and Pietersen’s tentative defence led to an inside-edge onto his stumps. Who needs referrals when you can rattle the timbers?Pragmatism of the day
Trott’s second encounter with the review system was less enjoyable than his first, as Mohammad Aamer persuaded him to play no stroke to a full-length outswinger, and umpire Tony Hill thought long and hard before eventually raising his finger. Trott was unimpressed, and called for the second opinion, but the ball was shown to be clipping the top of off. Whether he thought about the implications or not, Hill’s choice of decision was intriguing. Had he turned down the appeal, which could have been justified, Pakistan would doubtless have felt aggrieved having already wasted their two reviews. Instead, the onus was placed on Trott to seek the referral if he felt it was justified, just as it was several hours later, when Eoin Morgan was reprieved against Danish Kaneria. It may skew the traditional thinking about the role of the umpire and the benefit of doubt going to the batsman. But on both occasions, justice was served in the end, while at the same time a controversy was neatly sidestepped.Klutz of the day
He spilled an easy catch first thing in the morning, then claimed a catch shamelessly when replays clearly revealed the ball had bounced into his gloves, and finally he missed a regulation stumping an hour before the close. After an impressive Test at Headingley, Kamran Akmal resumed his bid to be recognised as the world’s worst wicketkeeper. Each of his three moments involved one of England’s key men of the day – Andrew Strauss, Eoin Morgan and Paul Collingwood – and but for the Akmal horror show, Pakistan could so easily have finished the day with a share of the spoils.No-baller of the day
All through the summer Umar Gul has been missing his bowling stride. In two Tests against Australia, he bowled a whopping 18 no-balls, and given that tally, one would have expected him to do the adjustments and get the rhythm correct in the nets, before the England series. Sadly, there was no coherence once again in his run-up. He started off with a false start, and then delivered five no-balls during the course of the day.Crowd of the day
After disappointing attendances for the Australia-Pakistan Tests, the general consensus was that normal service would be resumed as soon as England donned their whites and got back to playing the Nation’s Favourite Form of Cricket ©. But the gaps in the stands were dispiriting in the extreme. Given that England had not played a Test since early June, and not taken on a major nation at home since the Ashes last August, a full house should have been taken for granted, especially given how exciting the Pakistanis have proven to be in recent weeks. But somehow it seemed appropriate in a season of muddled priorities. The ECB’s fixture list is a shambles, and it’s as if the punters have got bored of waiting for the show to begin.

Liverpool agree deal to sign Fabio Carvalho

Liverpool are currently embroiled in a Premier League title battle but that hasn’t stopped plenty of work being done behind the scenes.

The Reds are working intently on bringing new players to Anfield ahead of the summer and according to sources, they are on the verge of sealing three signings.

What’s the word?

According to Football Insider’s sources, Liverpool have agreed on a deal to sign Fulham attacker Fabio Carvalho, alongside Celtic teenager Ben Doak and Derry City winger Trent Kone-Doherty.

Carvalho undoubtedly stands as the most eye-catching move there and it will be a relief for Jurgen Klopp to finally get things done and dusted.

Liverpool were close to signing the 19-year-old on transfer deadline day in January but a deal couldn’t be completed in time.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-salah-gnabry-isak-romano” title= “Read the latest Liverpool news!”]

It is no surprise, therefore, that they’ve now moved again to sign him when the next window opens.

The next Jota?

If Carvalho does join the Reds this summer then he could be the club’s new Diogo Jota.

Not only are they both fabulous attacking players, but they both honed their skills in the Championship.

The former Wolves man joined the Midlands club when they were attempting to get promoted and it didn’t take long for him to start capturing the imagination.

Jota bagged 17 goals and registered five assists in the English second tier, numbers that Carvalho is coming close to replicating.

The Fulham star has beaten the goalkeeper on eight occasions this term while picking up seven assists too. That has taken his overall tally across senior and youth level for Marco Silva’s charges to a whopping 42 strikes.

He might be young but it’s evident he is blessed with a huge amount of quality and indeed potential.

Leeds reported Phil Hay once dubbed him a “demon” and when you look at his other statistics, it’s easy to see why.

Like Jota, Carvalho is a menace for any defence with the attacking midfielder totalling 1.9 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game. In comparison to Liverpool’s current Portuguese dynamo, there isn’t too much difference between them.

Jota has 1.1 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per match in the Premier League throughout 2021/22, showing not only does he score goals but also knows how to do his teammates a favour too.

Carvalho may not become an instant hit at Anfield but like his countryman who joined from Wolves, there will be plenty of time to make an impact.

AND in other news, Liverpool plot record-breaking bid for £77m “special talent”, just imagine him & Jota…

Collymore leaves Sussex for Middlesex

Corey Collymore, the former West Indies seamer, is set to leave Sussex and move up to Middlesex at the end of the season to be closer to his family.Collymore, 32, joined Sussex as a Kolpak player in 2008 after his international career faded, and has been a pivotal part of their side since then. He has spearheaded Sussex’s drive to the the Division Two championship this summer as the club’s leading leading wicket taker with 57 scalps at 19.87. Despite his success, he wants to support his partner who is looking to complete her accountancy qualification in London.”I’m obviously disappointed to be leaving Sussex but I feel it is the best decision for me and my family,” he said. “I’m fortunate to have played for a very successful club over the last few years. The atmosphere has been great and I have many friends here at Hove. Everything has been tremendous, and I couldn’t have asked for any more from the club.”His arrival at Lord’s is a major boon for Middlesex who have struggled this year with Steven Finn on England duty and overseas signing Iain O’Brien missing large parts of the season through injury. Whether Collymore is supported by O’Brien next year is out of Middlesex’s hands as the club waits for the ECB to decide if he can be classed as a home player rather than an overseas. If not then O’Brien will be looking for a new county because Middlesex have secured the services of Australian opener Chris Rogers.Sussex, who will be in Division One next season, are now in need of another seamer but coach Mark Robinson bared no resentment for Collymore’s decision.”Corey has been an integral part of our attack for the last three years in four-day cricket, and at times he has carried our bowling unit this season and been a constant threat all year,” he said. “It is sad when anyone leaves the club but we respect Corey’s desire to be closer to his family.”

Confira abaixo as atuações do Boavista.

6,0 -Rafael

Boa partida do lateral-esquerdo.

Newcastle: Howe must now unleash Almiron

Newcastle United host Leicester City at St James’ Park this afternoon as they return to action in the Premier League, with Eddie Howe surely hoping he can lead his team further up the league standings with yet another three points.

The Foxes have only lost one of their last five league games, with Brendan Rodgers’ side currently battling for a top-half finish.

However, the Magpies recently returned to form following three consecutive losses when they beat Wolves last weekend, so the clash will likely be a close-run encounter.

Despite taking all three points from their last outings, Newcastle suffered a loss when Ryan Fraser was taken off the pitch after a hamstring injury complaint that has left Howe doubtful about his availability for selection for today’s game.

Howe confirmed his uncertainty concerning Fraser’s fitness during his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, stating:

“I don’t think it’s too bad. But it was enough to bring him off, we had a scan and it showed a very small problem. So hopefully it won’t be too long for him and we will have to see whether he makes this game.”

With that being said, the Scotland international’s injury could be the perfect opportunity for the Magpies manager to give the £74k-per-week Miguel Almiron a shot in the starting XI, something that could well pay off when you consider the attacker’s form this season.

The £14.4m-rated forward who was hailed “all-action” by Don Goodman has been incredibly effective since being moved into a more attacking role for the team, creating one big chance for his teammates over his 23 Premier League appearances this season, as well as making an average 0.6 key passes and taking 0.9 shots per game.

With the addition of this attacking threat, the 28-year-old and his fellow forwards could terrify Brendan Rodgers’ outfit, causing all sorts of problems for their defence throughout the game.

And, if Howe can secure a victory in front of the St James’ Park faithful this afternoon, Newcastle could leap-frog Aston Villa into 14th – something that would see them pull 13 points clear of the relegation zone.
