Graham Onions faces an extended period on the sidelines after the back injury which forced him to leave the Bangladesh tour proved to be more serious that first thought. He now has a battle to be fit for Bangladesh’s return visit with the series starting at the end of May.The ECB had asked Durham to take Onions, who is a centrally contracted player, with them to Abu Dhabi for their floodlit match against MCC but he will now remain in England for further treatment and is unlikely to make the start of Durham’s Championship defence on April 15.”He came back from Bangladesh with a back injury, which they initially thought was a minor complaint,” Geoff Cook, the Durham coach, told the . “X-rays, though, have shown it is a bit more serious and he has gone for another set of scans. He may be out for a month, he may be out for a month or two.””We have not been able to identify the exact cause of the problem,” Cook added. “He had another scan over the weekend and we are waiting for the results. It is disappointing he probably won’t be fit for the start of the season, especially for Graham as he has international aspirations. I am sure it is also a concern for England because they were starting to pull a bowling group together.”Will Smith, the Durham captain, had earlier told Cricinfo he hoped to have Onions available for the start of the season but now it appears he won’t have the luxury of the added firepower during the opening weeks of the summer. Smith, though, believes Onions has a key part to play in England’s bowling attack.”When he did play I don’t think he did a great deal wrong and was unlucky not to play the last Test in South Africa and he has done himself proud this winter,” he said. “The more we see him the better for us, of course, but for Graham’s career I would love to see him playing for England as much as he can.”It has been a difficult few months for Onions after he was surprisingly left out of the final Test against South Africa, at Johannesburg, when the management felt he was fatigued. This was despite him having bowling impressively, but without luck, during the first three Tests and twice surviving the last over at Centurion and Cape Town to secure thrilling draws. With James Anderson rested for the tour of Bangladesh he had been earmarked for a recall, but arrived for the trip with his back problem and when it didn’t improve ahead of the first Test at Chittagong he was sent home.Meanwhile, Onions’ county team-mate Liam Plunkett will leave Bangladesh a day early after experience discomfort in his elbow. He will be assessed back in England and may yet link up with Durham in Abu Dhabi for the MCC match which starts on March 29. Plunkett’s winter has been spent on the sidelines with just one international appearance in the third one-day against Bangladesh.

Australia on the verge of second round

Australia have almost ensured there will be no repeat of their first-round exit in this event last year

The Big PictureAustralia have almost ensured there will be no repeat of their first-round exit in this event last year following their convincing performance against Pakistan on Sunday. The 34-run success means they will have to be embarrassed by Bangladesh to be knocked out during a game they hope will be played on a surface offering much more bounce that the pitches in St Lucia.

The group moves to Barbados for the final match of the opening phase and Bangladesh are praying for a strong victory in order to qualify. They were beaten by Pakistan by 21 runs on Saturday, leaving their net run-rate at -1.05, and are chasing a minor miracle given they have lost 11 Twenty20s in a row.Australia are now feeling like they would in a 50-over World Cup. A strong start has given them confidence and most of their major operators are in good touch. Shane Watson and David Hussey posted half-centuries against Pakistan while Shaun Tait, Dirk Nannes and Mitchell Johnson combined for eight wickets. Johnson is in doubt for this match due to an elbow infection but if the attack clicks again a spot in the second round will be a formality.Form guide (most recent first) Australia WTWWW
Bangladesh LLLLL
Watch out for… Dirk Nannes continues to grow as a fast bowler and will enjoy running in at the Bangladeshis, who often struggle with shorter balls. Nannes provides potential for more discomfort by being a left-armer who operates around 150kph and can cramp the batsmen for room. He has played only six T20s for Australia since swapping from the Netherlands last year, and has taken at least a wicket in every innings, including 3 for 41 on Sunday. The best chance Bangladesh have is if Tamim Iqbal takes off. Tamim is capable of gorging on attacks and seems perfectly suited to Twenty20, but has struggled to go on and has a top score of 32 in 14 matches. A strike-rate of 93.68 is also well below par for a batsman of such aggressive quality and his country will be willing him to stand tall against Australia.Team newsJohnson is an uncertain starter after he left training on Tuesday to have medical treatment on an infection in his right elbow. “He could probably play if it was the World Cup final tomorrow, but there’s a lot of the tournament to go,” the team physio Alex Kountouris told AAP. That means Ryan Harris should be included for his first match after making a last-minute dash to the Caribbean to replace the injured Brett Lee. Nathan Hauritz, the offspinner, was left out of the opening match and should stay on the sidelines, especially if the pitch looks like helping the fast bowlers. Even if Johnson proves fit, Harris is an outside chance to come in, probably at the expense of Steven Smith. “With our squad we have the potential to change the team for conditions,” the captain Michael Clarke said. “If conditions suit another fast bowler in Barbados, I don’t see why not.”Australia (probable) 1 Shane Watson, 2 David Warner, 3 Michael Clarke (capt), 4 David Hussey, 5 Cameron White, 6 Brad Haddin (wk), 7 Michael Hussey, 8 Steven Smith, 9 Ryan Harris, 10 Dirk Nannes, 11 Shaun Tait.It can’t be a great job selecting the Bangladesh XI. There are so many players capable of competitive bursts, yet so few positive results. The batting looks stronger than the bowling at the moment, so Syed Rasel may come into calculations.Bangladesh (possible) 1 Tamim Iqbal, 2 Imrul Kayes, 3 Mohammad Ashraful, 4 Shakib Al Hasan (capt), 5 Mahmudullah, 6 Naeem Islam, 7 Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), 8 Mashrafe Mortaza, 9 Suhrawadi Shuvo, 10 Shafiul Islam, 11 Abdur Razzak.Pitch and conditionsBefore the tournament began the Australians were thinking of using four fast men in Barbados, which they remembered as the quickest surface in the Caribbean. It’s unlikely they will employ that sort of attack now Lee has gone home, and talk of slower wickets at Kensington Oval will also reduce the chances of a pace quartet. The forecast is for scattered showers and a top of 30C.Stats and trivia The teams have played once in Twenty20s, with Australia winning by nine wickets at the 2007 tournament in South Africa. Australia have three men in the Caribbean who took part in that game, while Bangladesh have six Bangladesh haven’t won a T20 international since they beat West Indies in September 2007 Australia have not been defeated since their exit in last year’s tournament. Since then they have had a no result, an abandoned match, five wins and a one-over eliminator loss that is officially recorded as a tie. It’s their most successful streak in the formatQuotes”There’s probably extra motivation from within the squad. We want to perform better than we have in Twenty20 cricket in general, not just in this tournament.”
Michael Clarke’s side doesn’t want to be among the also-rans

“It’s going to be near impossible for us to get through. It’s not going to be of any use winning and not have the right margin. We’re going to need a reasonable run rate, that’s for sure.”

Spurs eye new target after Traore swoop

Tottenham Hotspur will target Sofyan Amrabat after sealing a move for Adama Traore this week, according to Fabrizio Romano…

What’s the one?

The Italian transfer guru delivered a fresh update on Spurs’ transfer plans to Twitter, where he revealed that the Fiorentina midfielder was their “main target” as they close in on the Wolves star.

“Tottenham are now focused on Tanguy Ndombele loan move to Paris Saint-Germain and Adama Traoré deal with Wolves. Negotiations [are] ongoing.

“Sofyan Amrabat’s the main target as midfielder in case Ndombele will leave, as revealed on Sunday,” he said.

It remains to be seen how much the 25-year-old Moroccan international would command with CIES Football Observatory valuing him at around €15m (£12.5m).

Onto the next

It certainly seems as if Traore will soon become a Lilywhites player after GIVEMESPORT reported that they had agreed to make him their fourth-highest earner on £120k-per-week with an initial loan move very close.

Now it seems their attention will turn to strengthen another key area that Antonio Conte is desperate to bolster – the engine room.

[snack-amp-story url = “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/tottenham-hotspur-thfc-spurs-transfer-rumours-gossip-conte-paratici-levy-updates” title=”Read the latest Spurs news, transfer updates and much, much more!”]

Ndombele’s move to Paris Saint-Germain could well happen before next Monday’s deadline, whilst the futures of Giovani Lo Celso and Dele Alli are by no means certain either, so there’s going to be a position in the squad available if even two of the three depart N17.

It’s believed that the Italian head coach wanted three key signings.

One being right wing-back, where he is expected to convert the Spanish winger into his next Victor Moses, central midfield, where Amrabat has emerged as the top target, and striker, where Harry Kane needs some backup, as per football.london.

Capped 27 times for his national side and having featured in over 130 appearances across the Italian and Dutch top-flight, the 6-foot powerhouse is an experienced and reliable option in the heart of the pitch.

At the Africa Cup of Nations this month, he has been one of the best passers, averaging a success rate of 93%, only bettered by three other players, whilst the fact that he commits more fouls (106) than he has tackles (101) during his time in Italy suggests he’s an aggressive presence that isn’t afraid of putting in the graft, so he’ll be a midfielder right up Conte’s street.

On the above evidence, the 52-year-old will surely be delighted as Spurs close in on their first two signings of the winter transfer window, especially as they are in key positions he has requested for.

Empresário coloca lateral Buffarini próximo do Boca Juniors

Wins for USA and Cayman Islands

USA and Cayman Islands notched up victories on the opening day of the ICC World Cricket League Americas Division One Twenty20

Cricinfo staff05-Jun-2010USA prevailed over Argentina in a close encounter at the Sea Breeze Oval in Hamilton, winning by two wickets in a big chase. Struggling at 105 for 7, USA were boosted by a 67-run eighth-wicket stand between Timroy Allen (32) and Orlando Baker (28*). The pair gave their team a realistic chance of winning after a bulk of the line-up had faltered in its chase of 184. Allen struck two sixes in his 21-ball knock while Baker stayed through to the end to seal victory with 11 balls to spare. Argentina didn’t help their cause by conceding 25 extras, 17 in wides. The star for Argentina with the bat was Grant Dugmore who smashed 68 in 35 balls, including six fours and five sixes. He was supported by Tomas Francis (35) and Donald Forrester (32) as Argentina finished with a challenging score. But USA’s lower order stepped up to overhaul it.Cayman Islands eased to an eight-wicket win over Bahamas at the National Stadium in Hamilton. Ryan Bovell struck an unbeaten 50 to chase down a paltry target of 102 and was supported by opener Ramon Sealy in that effort. Only three Bahamas batsmen reached double-figures with each failing to push on. Ryan Tappin made a slow 23 while Marc Taylor chipped in with 20. Bowlers Marlon Bryan and Alessandro Morris bagged two wickets each to restrict the opposition to a woefully inadequate total.

West Ham: Twist emerges on Kurzawa move

A fresh twist has emerged on West Ham United’s late move to bring Layvin Kurzawa to the London Stadium on transfer deadline day.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by French publication RMC Sport, who claim that, despite the fact David Moyes’ side were interested in a late swoop for the Paris Saint-Germain left-back, the Hammers ultimately missed out on a deal for the 29-year-old as they could not find Arthur Masuaku a move away from the club prior to Monday evening’s transfer deadline.

Grave error

With David Moyes revealing that his three priority positions in the January transfer window were a new left-back, centre-back and centre-forward, the news that the club missed out on the signing of a player as talented as Kurzawa due to being unable to secure Masuaku a move elsewhere is undoubtedly a grave error on the part of the 58-year-old.

Indeed, from the outside looking in, the Scot’s decision to leave almost all of his moves in the winter market until the final day of the window appears to have been an extremely strange decision, for the exact reason stated above.

For example, had Moyes truly wanted to get a deal over the line for the PSG defender last month, the Hammers boss could quite easily have instructed his transfer team to find Masuaku a new side from January 1 – ample time to secure the Frenchman a move elsewhere.

Then, upon his move away from East London, space would have been freed up in the 58-year-old’s first-team squad, allowing the manager to sanction a swoop for PSG’s France international.

However, by leaving all of West Ham’s business until the final day of the market, Moyes gave both himself and other sides very little opportunity to manoeuvre – something that spectacularly backfired on the Scot, who now possesses a team with exactly the same weaknesses as it did heading into the January transfer window.
